ESPN Really screwed up their web site

Post#1 » by hands11 » Thu Apr 2, 2015 5:04 am

Why do people do this. I stopped using the NBA site a long time ago because ESPNs was so much cleaner.

Now I find myself going back the NBA site because the ESPN one is a mess. Its so huge.

Personally, I like a site with some side board blank space.

Anyone else annoyed, here is a site that looks pretty clean.

I like it and I think it's a big improvement over what they had before.

I'm also the one person in the galaxy who liked Windows 8 more than Windows 7, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

The old site was more aesthetically pleasing but the new one is better organized.

Agreed. Totally fugly and having trouble going to it now that they messed it up so bad. Looks more like an amateur website now. Why in the world would they do this?

The problem is that they have geared the website towards their mobile users while making the desktop version garbage. They should have simply kept the mobile and desktop versions separate.

That makes sense (as to why) but I agree, they should have a separate app for mobiles and not try to merge the two.

Agreed, I also used to use it instead of the NBA site but since ESPN changed it i've gone back to using the NBA site.

I'm allergic to all things ESPN so I won't even have a look.

But nba.com is absolutely atrocious, after steadily getting worse in the last 10 years. If someone has an alternative that features recap videos, I'm interested.

You could always use Yaho... Oh wait, they screwed theirs up also.

I loved the old format, they definitely blew it with this format. This format puts too much at the user; the amount of squares to click on is slightly overwhelming. As ridiculous as that sounds, keeping things clear and concise is absolutely essential to making anaesthetically pleasing website. This is just a massive jumble of articles.

I like websites that are contained with a top and a bottom though, so the never ending loading thing that is meant for social media bothers me greatly.

Definitely not a fan, but my opinion is pretty meaningless. I will definitely be utilizing other websites.

It looks fine to me, the old one was outdated badly. Like, REALLY badly, trends in web design have changed a lot and they'd be stupid not to keep pace. This one falls more in line with the more minimalist "rectangles of different colors" style that is so popular these days.

It takes longer to get to the box scores (for in progress games) now. On the old frontpage, you used to be able to mouse over the game and click "box score," but now that's gone and clicking on the game takes you to the gamecast box score, and you can't jump from game to game on there.

Now you either scroll to or select NBA from a drop down, mouse over NBA and select 'all NBA,' then click on 'full scoreboard' on the other side of the screen. Then you have access to all of the box scores for that day. I'll get used to it, but man, it's annoying. I've been right clicking open the box scores from the frontpage for years.

This is coming from an objective observer because I never visit ESPN, I think it looks fine.

That said, I know the feeling of layout changes and it can be a real bummer. Even if it is a downgrade, you get used to it and forget all about it, though.

I like it. It's a lot cleaner, far less clutter, and easier to navigate IMO.

It's still better than NBA.com. They really ruined that site.
