Even though I am pretty agnostic, I don't respect the views of most progressives/liberals on abortion. Worldwide more than half of the abortions lead to woman being killed so this whole notion that if you are a man, you are sexist if you are opposed to 100% abortion rights is moronic.
Pretty much the ony liberal/progressive position I accept on this issue is by someone like Camille Paglia, a dissident feminist, who at least admits it is killing a human being but just believes so much in the liberty over ones own body and the state not getting involved with that. I disagree with her but respect her opinion since she isn't going against science in saying a fetus is just a bunch of random cells or making double talk.
I tend to believe abortion should be illegal except in cases involving the life of the mother seriously being at stake, rape or a child born with conditions that may be truly horrible. Probably the US would be better off with abortion being only protected by the US government in those rare circumstances and then every state having a vote on its own on whether to allow or disallow abortions.
Frankly, I do think unplanned pregnancies are so bad for society that I would offer free contraception devices to pretty much any woman that wasn't somewhat wealthy. I am talking about the things that work for years at a time that don't rely upon woman taking a pill or men wearing a condom.
