Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
MKG deserve that All-Defense team even if it's just 3rd team. I'm happy that they are campaigning for that the same way they did Al's paint that every player stepped that wanted to score stepped on before it dried.

formatting the MKG video...
Great idea.
Its a shame he got injured this last time. Voters tend to have short-term memories. Having MKG locking down dudes these last few weeks to end the season would have been huge. Missing the playoffs will also hurt his chances.
But, we all agree, he deserves a spot on the team.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
Wondering how MKG stacks up against the competition? Look no further than these rankings to see how MKG fares against the rest of the NBA.
Ranks first among wings in defensive rebound percentage (21.4%)
Ranks third among wings in defensive rebounds (5.6)
Ranks 10th in defensive rating among players who have played at least 40 games (96.5)
Ranks sixth among wings and 11th in the NBA in Defensive Adjusted Plus Minus
Ranks in the 67th percentile in man-to-man opponent points per possession, despite normally guarding the other team’s best player, and ranks in the 87th percentile with four seconds or less remaining on the shot clock, according to Synergy Sports
Ranks in the 75th percentile in “Guarded Catch and Shoot” situations, holding opponents to just 30.5% shooting, according to Synergy Sports
(Stats and rankings through games of 4-1)

this highlight video is also part of the package. I wish they would have put more clips of him smothering his man, and his incredibly recovery defense and help defense and less focus on blocks. blocked shots are flashy, but not really want makes MKG an amazing defender.

I agree that blocks are not what he is best at but they are what get votes. Like it or not a ton of emphasis is put on flash in this thing and a SF stuffing bigs gives you some of that. Guys who vote based on smother man to man defense and recovery already know about him I would think.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
Fun fact: MKG currently has a streak of 11 consecutive games with at least one block, effectively doubling his season total in that span. It hasn't been a part of his game until recently, but it's an area he's improving in.

He's always been too busy playing defesne to go for blocks.
Glad he's incorporating it further into his game.

I'll definitely be a little annoyed if he doesn't at least get 3rd team all-defense.
MKG is a sneaky good rim protector.

There are only two teams, but point remains. I don't think they're position-specific either, though the voters tend to select players as if they were.

He would have a strong case if he had played all year. As it stands now he's probably on the fence.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
Bonnell tweeted again today about our record when MKG doesnt play (6-14) vs when he does (26-28).
I keep seeing people mention this stat, but they are also missing another big piece of information. We are also 0-3 in games where MKG started but was hurt during the game and never returned.
vs Knicks
vs Sixers (winning 38-29 when he left game, lost 81-89)
vs Wizards (winning 77-71 when he left game, lost 107-110)

So really that record should look more like 6-17 in games where MKG was hurt and didnt play or got hurt in game and never returned. 26-25 in games where MKG is plays and does not get injured.

I wonder if it is a big change earlier in the season when he was being benched late in games.

Yeah, don't forget all the games we lost the first two months in the fourth quarter then MKG was firmly planted on the bench watching the lead helped build dwindle down to nothing.

I will never understand how this guy was allowed to stunt the development of our 2nd overall pick the way he has. MKG shouldve been playing 30 minutes a game, shooting about 1000 jumpers a day, developing a mid range shot (like a floater) and in the weight room to prepare himself for his aggressive style of play. Instead we put him in a 3-4 year off season regime trying to teach him to shoot a new form, but now his teacher is leaving him in the middle of the process for another gig
.I also now question why we refuse to play Biz at power forward, the guy is only 6'8, he's too small to compete with most centers! Our whole coaching and developmental staff is terrible in my opinion.

This is clearly true. Cliff is not a developer. He stunts it in favor of putting his guys out that can play together now, no matter how bad that may be. Noah is raw but he would have benefited from regular minutes. This team thought they were ready to take a next step, but it became a couple of steps back.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Bass, I dont wanna beat a dead horse, but I think a case could also be made that had we played the young guys more, not only would they be more developed, but they would make our team better. We know how not playing MKG late has hurt us in some games, but what if we played Vonleh in some of those games where our bigs were abused for lack of size? Was he really not ready to provide anything for us? I just dont know man.
