Re: Favorite 5 Bulls
I like everyone who has been good for the Bulls even for one season. Even Ben Wallace and Boozer contributed to wins although they might have killed the overall strategic progress of the team.
I don't hate anyone but I definitely reserve my favorable opinion on McDermott as one of my likes until he proves he can contribute towards winning games. He might be the most disappointing Bull after Jay Williams/Curry if he doesn't improve.

Favorite 5 Bulls
Now:
1) Joakim
2) Jimmy
3) Niko
4) Taj
5) Derrick
All-Time:
1) MJ
2) Pippen
3) Rodman
4) Horace
5) Pax
Most Disappointing:
1) Tyrus - Literally had HOF talent.
2) Eddy Curry - Should have averaged 30ppg for multiple seasons.
3) Eddie Robinson
4) BJ Armstrong - More based on the bitter, harmful human being he is than his actual playing ability (although he was the worst starting PG on an All-Star team ever).
5) Ron Mercer - Wow he sucked balls. The mere signing of him was a disappointment that summer.

Anyone like Mercer, Erob and Jalen rose when they were bulls? I know they were disappointments especially Erob, but I was a fan of theirs at that time.

Deng was not the problem. He actually was someone who was versatile and adapted to different roles. He didn't have ball handling ability but if Boozer was good as advertised, then Deng would have been a great 3rd option and now a great fit next to Jimmy/McDermott /Mirotic types.
He was able to do lot of things at a high level. Has Jimmy done anything at Deng's level in the playoffs?

Re: Favorite 5 Bulls
Nice thread.
Now:
Butler / Gasol / Niko / ETwaun / Snell
^ basically the only players who aren't totally crapping the bed on either end.
All-Time :
Pippen / MJ - not a big fan, but eternally grateful / Noah / Van Lier / Artis
Disappointing:
Gordon / Curry / Chandler / Crawford / Rose
Hoping Rose can put in the work needed to move from the disappointing to the all-time bucket.

If the rumors are to be believed the deal was never just Deng for Gasol, so it's hardly fair to hold it against him.

With what the Bulls had at the time it didn't matter who else was involved. You don't pass up a 7 footer for a 6'8 guy who doesn't have the athleticism or tools to dominate his position. You also don't pass up a Wade because you wanted to draft Kirk Hinrich. The lame excuse of not wanting to part with Donyell Marshall of all people was just downright awful, a firing offense in my book.

Of course it matters. If it's not just Deng for Gasol, you can't say that they were favoring Deng over Gasol. They were favoring Deng and Gordon and a pick over Gasol. There's a difference. As for Wade, a lot of mocks had Wade falling to us at 7, so you can't say Pax chose Hinrich over Wade.

Now
1. Derrick Rose. I still love the guy and the fact he's a Chicago guy.
2. Pau Gasol. I've always been a Pau guy. He's just been so fun to watch. Even when he was in crappy Vancouver.
3. Nikola Mirotic.
4. Joakim Noah. And I never thought I'd say that the night he was drafted. There were multiple beer cans thrown at the TV at our draft party.
5. Jimmy Butler. I loved the pick when it was made. Great attitude and work ethic. Just keeps getting better.
All-Time (I'm 33, so I'm not going to say Norm Van Lier, etc. as I've never seen them play)
1. Michael Jordan. Doesn't need an explination.
2. Scottie Pippen. See Michael Jordan.
3. Toni Kukoc. Just a great player to watch on those mid-90's team. Kind of the glue and just fun.
4. Dennis Rodman. A player I hated with the Pistons and loved the second he put on #91. He meant so much here.
5. Kirk Hinrich. Decent player, but a great guy and teammate. Class act. Wish he could win one.
Honrorable mention: Luol Deng.
Most Disappointing
1. Jay Williams. So excited when he was picked and he pissed it all way. Oh, what could have been...
2. Tyrus Thomas. Not because he sucked, but because who Pax gave away when he fell in love with TT. We all saw it. He didn't.
3. Dalibor Bagaric. For all the hype in the days before the internet/youtube, etc. being what it is now and he flat out SUCKED. (Thanks, Crumbs)
4. Ben Wallace. Great player on an actual team (the Pistons at the time, not the Bulls). Bulls overpaid to get him here and be their #1. Whoops.
5. A 4-way tie: Eddy Curry, Marcus Fizer, Mario Austin & Tyson Chandler. Curry is obvious. Very talented but just very lazy. Fizer was just a terrible NBA talent and when you look who the Bulls could have drafted instead at 4, it's infuriating. Mario Austin because of who the Bulls passed on in the 2nd round and the fact he never played an NBA game (Kyle Korver, Steve Blake, Zaza Pachulia). Tyson Chandler because they had to give up Elton Brand (Thanks, Crumbs) and then they had to get rid of him for him to actually become a very nice player.

Considering the fact they allowed Ben Gordon to walk I would say it was favoring Deng over Gasol. And what good GM in their right mind would wait and hope that the best player available would drop instead of accepting a trade that would get you the best player available. Especially a trade that basically swapped draft position.

If anything, it was favoring Deng and his potential over Ben Gordon's. They could only afford to keep one. Luckily they chose correctly.

To whom? Toronto wasn't not taking Bosh when he was still there at 4 and the Heat worked out Wade twice and had every intentention of taking him if he was on the board. Riley knew the Bulls wanted him too. I don't know why people still think the Bulls somehow got "screwed" or had a trade to make that night.
The only way that scenario works if Joe Dumars wasn't a complete moron and took Carmelo Anthony 2nd. Then Bosh probably goes 3 and the Bulls could have potentially made a move to 4, but based on who went 2, that was NEVER an option.

That's irrelevant. It was still Deng, Gordon and a pick. It doesn't matter if they valued one guy over the other if both were being asked for, so it's inaccurate to say they favored Deng over Gasol.

Now
Rose - will always love the guy. Has given us all so much joy and I hope he comes back in the playoffs and plays free and happy like he used to
Noah - His passion is amazing. Great player to cheer for. He is old school and real.
Butler - Plays his heart out, always looking to improve. Proof you can achieve great things with heart and dedication.
Niko - so talented. A joy to watch.
Buckets - always have a soft spot for our young draftees. I hope he makes it and I think he will. Seems like a great kid.
All time
Rose - see above
MJ - Obvious reasons
Pip - Obvious reasons
BG7 - Absolutely cut me when he left and secretly still hope he comes back. I think because he, Deng and Kirk turned our miserable team around. He was cold blooded. All those clutch 4th quarters and game winners. I just flat out love the man.
My fifth option is a tie between Tyrus and Nate. Never wanted a guy to succeed more than Tyrus. Thought he would've been special. Nate was amazing, short and overmatched he played his heart out for us.

Most dissapointing
Ben Wallace - Heartless, robbed us blindly
E-Rob - See Ben Wallace above. This guy flat out didn't care
Curry - the whole situation blew. Was a special talent and should've been a home town hero.
Jay Will - waking up and seeing the thread about his accident was terrible. Glad he has a career still involved with the game.
Tyrus - I have him in this section because watching him at LSU, I was so happy we drafted him. I dont think we developed him correctly, he was a different personality. He was playing well and we decided to make Drew Gooden our starting PF.

The trade would have been Deng, Gordon, and the Knicks pick that ended up being Joakim Noah. Don't pretend it was just Deng and fillers.
