So the devil makes you an offer...
The Devil offers you Detroit winning the 3rd overall pick in the lottery (with Towns and Okafor off the board 1-2) BUT it means the Cleveland Cavaliers will win the title this year - Do you make that deal? If you don't take it we keep the #8 pick and Cleveland doesn't win the title.
What do you do?

I take the 8th pick homie. Because the player that can be picked or the asset acquired (by trading the pick for say a Paul George?) wouldn't be that big of a drop off from Okafor/Towns for me to stomach Cleveland winning EVEEERRRRRRRRR.

And for anyone else reading it, I edited my post. I got it mixed up at first. I initially said trade for a Paul George with the 3rd pick, not the 8th pick. I know the 8th couldn't net a Paul George.

Not sure how this is even a question, take the 3rd pick anyday, couldnt care any less about which other team wins the title

Take the pick. It would be foolish to do otherwise.
And this is from someone who's hated Lebron forever. I might be a little annoyed that they win, but not enough to pass up a potential all-star in the draft.

I'd take the pick. If the Pistons aren't winning the title I don't care who does. Further, I have no animosity towards the Cavs or Lebron. Frankly, I'd rather see the Cleveland fans get their first than another one for SA.

Re: So the devil makes you an offer...
I keep #8 - I couldn't stomach Lebron crying all over the trophy and Comic Sans Predatory Lender Dan Gilbert and his kid he sent to win all those first overall picks dancing around center court, and the fanbase now with a title, and the parade would probably go from Cleveland right down to Quicken (Predatory) Loan HQ in Detroit...
It would all be too much.
If Stan is staying with Jackson it means we wouldn't draft a PG anyways so we'd still be looking at the same group of players - just that we'd have our pick of them rather than taking whichever one is left over to us.
Did I mention I loathe James and Cleveland?
Any team from the West would be fine, as would Atlanta. Toronto winning would suck rather hard as well - but just because of their fanbase.

Re: So the devil makes you an offer...
I'd take it and draft Russell to play alongside Reggie. They're both a bit ball-dominant, but Russell can play off ball because he's smart enough to know when/where to be, and he's a very good shooter. I always believe in BPA > fit when you're a lotto team drafting top 10, and this case is no different but I do believe they could fit. There's enough ball handling duties for both of them to have a significant role on-ball.
I hate Cleveland, but the disparity between #3 (Russell/Mudiay available, or trade the pick) and #8 (3 of Oubre/Hezonja/Johnson/Winslow could be gone by then) is pretty significant, and improving the team I root for > settling for a worse pick just to see another team fail.

If we were talking the 80's Celts or 90's Bulls this would be a much tougher call. But there are very few true rivals in today's league due to player movement and an expanded league.
Cleveland is kinda douchy, but my annoyance is not even close to the sort of loathing that used to fuel those classic rivalries. Heck, even the 00's Pacers were more hated. The pick is an easy choice.

I would rather things be fair for all playing. And when is the last time somebody made a deal with the Devil and got what he or she wanted? Dr. Faustus, the Winchesters, Bart Simpson, Robert Johnson, etc. We'd get the three pick, and it would be cursed--like Sam Bowie or something.

If Lebron never wins another title? I'd trade 3 for 8 for that. If we are just stopping this year and next year is a whole new game? Give me Russell all day. In this draft there's going to be a really good player available at 8, but if Lebron-Love-Kyrie stay together and Gilbert will continue to spend they'll get a title eventually.

Especially with the cap going up as projected.
I don't understand all of the animosity toward LeBron, just like I didn't understand it 30 years ago with Jordan, just a bunch of haters and homers.

I honestly have moved past hating on Lebron himself. But the way he is treated by fans and the media is what drives my dislike now. I'm sorry but I can't stand bandwagon fans that flip flop teams all the time. I can deal with the fans that come out of the woodwork when their team performs well, but seeing someone go from a Lakers fan, to a Cleveland fan, to a Miami fan, and back drives me crazy. They try to claim all the success as if they've been a die hard the whole time. That's why I want Lebron to lose.

I get your dislike for the flip flopping fans but I can't hate LeBron for it. I was actually a Bulls fan in the 80s and 90s because I was borderline obsessed with Jordan and I also didn't like the way a few of the Pistons played back then, Laimbeer and Zeke mostly. Once Jordan retired though I went back to the home team, if people have a problem with that, two tears in a bucket.

I'd trade the souls of a few 2nd round draft picks to get the #1 pick.

I could care less if the Cavs win or not.
If we get DeAngelo Russell who is Brandon Roy pt 2 I would do back flips.
Reggie, Drummond, Russell.. man
