A closer look at Drummonds defense this season

Finally, Drummond’s defense is a big plus. He’s currently seventh in the NBA in blocks per game, meaning that Drummond is a disruptive force in the paint on both ends of the floor. His blocks and defensive rating are actually both up from last season although his offense dropped off a little, and his defensive win shares currently a career-high 3.7, good enough for tenth in the NBA.

Clearly Andre Drummond has a lot going for him. His rebounding, defense, consistency and decent field goal percentage are all big pluses and signs that Drummond could one day be a superstar. His foul trouble (both shooting free throws and fouling other players) and lack of scoring hurt him, but not terribly.

If he can become a decent foul shooter, take a few more shots per game and raise his field goal percentage back up to last year’s or even close Drummond would be, in my opinion, a superstar.

His terrific defense and rebounding, along with converting his trips to the line and scoring more like 20 points a game than 13 would make him a force to be reckoned with in the NBA, and I could see that happening.

So my answer to the question, “Is Andre Drummond going to be a superstar?” is a definitive probably. In a few seasons of work, development and acclimation with Van Gundy’s system, Drummond could end up being one of the best centers in the entire NBA. Watch out, DeMarcus Cousins.

thats easier said than done. His touch around the rim isn't great even tho he is a great offensive rebounder which helps a lot but his tip shots look like they have a better chance of going in that a lot of his layups. I hope he puts in work in the off season and comeback a beast and put the Deandre Jordan comparison to rest.

Plus Dre's fouls imo are 60% bull sh*t and 40% him, a lot of the time after a block shot or good contest the refs come with this dumbass late foul for no reason its really annoying its like they have a quota to fill for Dre fouls. But he does make bad decisions like push off and go in for steals when the guard is driving when he should just try to contest it or let it go.

My eye test still shows he has some alot of improvement to do. I hope he does that this off-season. I have pretty high expectations for him on both ends of the floor, but defense especially because of how he moves for his size

He's really good when he's locked in, I think it might have been that first game in Indiana where he got fired up and locked down the paint in the second half. Average most of the time though, bites too easily on fakes and gives up too much easy stuff at the rim. I think getting in foul trouble so much didn't help this.

They need to tie his arm down in practice and make him do tip ins and rebounds,then switch it half way thru summer.They should also have a cutom rim made that bigger than most,once he masters that,have him move back down to regular size

I think too much is expected... he needs help... he can't cover his man and also quickly switch on dribble pen every time... Big Ben was a rare breed that could recover without help.
Today's rules are putting excessive pressure on big men... Drummond is a top 5 Center for roaming the paint and hedging the P&R... after a while you simply wear down trying to keep up with the guys that are protected by the refs going to the rim.... this is a team issue.

Just the fact that this discussion is happening is good for him. Refs look at you different when you are a Star, I don't think anyone will argue this.

A few superstar no calls on the defensive end could really help him out. I agree with the poster above that said 60% of his fouls are bull. On the offensive end, not so much, that FT shooting is atrocious

How so? I was just comparing some of his advanced defensive stats with a couple of the elite defensive bigs and he's pretty much on par or not trailing too far behind.

Really one of the main things holding Drummond back from the elite numbers his BLK % but I think he's definitely capable of being a 2.5-3 bpg Center. Gobert and Whiteside are playing on a whole other level but they also don't play have as many minutes or as much USG% as Drummond or Davis.

No kidding he's young and sometimes he looks phenomenal while other times he looks terrible. Bit you're blind hate for one of the best young talents in the league is just downright comical.

Drummond showed signs of being a presence at times. Saw a few times where teams would consider a jumper, see Drummond hanging around, and they'd think twice.

What's funny is that LeBron is one of a few guys the actually does look intimidated by Drummond in front of him. Andre's had some nice rejections and alterations on Bron this year.
