i've been on board since his very first game against north carolina. he's special. the real deal. it's so obvious... most of you are so blind.

23.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 7.9apg, 2.1spg this year... My projections for his prime years were pretty damn close... :P

since you're a prophet I'm curious to know what you think about D'Angelo Russell since they are similar players

I like him a lot. He has similar potential, but probably won't reach it if he comes out this year... I think he's a top 3 pick this year(ahead of Mudiay) if he wants to leave for the NBA.

The most Curry-like prospect since Curry for sure though. Curry might be the best shooter in basketball history.

This thread is amazing. Its why we shouldn't take pre-draft commentary so seriously. Maybe 1/10 guys here actually predicted how good Curry would be

Any other old threads like this where most people were completely off with their projections?

Congrats, you sir won the worst post in the thread. But seriously, this is why none of our opinions really matter until you see the kids in real NBA games. None of us are professional talent evaluators, we are forced to make judgements off a game or two sample size and a draftexpress video. I wish this board was around when Nowitzki was drafted, would have loved to see the projections.

Although Steph is at a different level now, the guy who started the thread made the best possible comparison. Steph is like a better version of Mark Price.

Steve Nash wasn't bad as a comparison either. (Of course Nash and Price are quite similar to begin with) Kudos to those who saw his ability.

Nash was probably the closest comparison now after Price

And everyone laughed at him

I have never been as wrong about a player as I have been about Steph Curry. I remember making this comparison, and because of it I will never try to project a player again...Because of this post, I give players like Nik Stauskus the benefit of the doubt from here until eternity

The worst part about my post is how arrogantly it reads in hindsight  ..."Gstate homers", you can take solace in the fact that I know nothing about basketball, while you have a MVP player and potential (likely) all time great

edit: My other takes on that draft....

On James Harden...
Rebel INS wrote:I'm not as concerned about his athleticism as most people

what I am concerned is rumors of poor conditioning, work ethic and competitive drive

I've heard more than one account of him being lazy. I don't know how valid those rumors are but if there's truth to them then I'd pass if theres anyone else on the board worth taking. You can succeed (or at least be mediocre) in the nba if you're athletically limited or somewhat lazy but you can't be both (see Adam Morrison).

And later in a "Bust of the Draft" thread...

Rebel INS wrote:I would've said Harden but the situation in OKC is perfect for him, with minimal immediate pressure/expectations/scoring load

(Yes, the only reason James Harden isn't a bust is because he wasn't asked to carry a scoring load during his career)

On my surefire star, Tyreke Evans

Rebel INS wrote:Evans is as NBA ready as anyone in this draft. In terms of bust potential, he has none. Absolute worst case for him is a career loser with 15-20 ppg on bad percentages..not ideal by any stretch, but not terrible considering where hes projected to go and the rest of his draft class.

The question with him is simply shot selection and decision making. He's a volume scorer, with bad shooting form which would make him a terrible 1st/2nd option for the near future. However, if he can play within a role and improve his ability to perform without the ball in his hands, the sky is the limit. He also has great defensive potential.

He's ball dominant as of now, but assuming we keep Calderon, he'd be the perfect backcourt complement.

I would have no issue with us drafting evans. His potential is as high as anyone in this draft

The worst part is that I thought I nailed by projections after Tyreke's empty stat ROY year. This draft was actually a very humbling experience for me and helped me realize I don't have nearly enough experience, knowledge or time to properly evaluate any NBA prospect

In all fairness, the team you get drafted by makes 90% of the difference unless your Lebron or Anthony Davis.

And now Stephen Curry is even better than we thought. Approaching Jordan territory.

Approaching?! He is there, although a different type player. Dick Vitale called it during the draft. I can't believe how many blind people blasted a guy that single handily shot 50 40 90 and average 30 pts a game with no one else on the team sell so low on him.......oops yes I can.

He's not quite there yet imo. Overall, this may be the best season ever offensively. We've seen players have more impressive offensive stretches (say, Kobe dropping four 50+ including two 60 point games, in a row), but overall, his consistently prolific scoring combined with the efficiency he does it and the minutes that he plays is incredible.

He'll never impact the game defensively the way MJ did, and we need to see him elevate his play to the heights that MJ did during the playoffs. Like, for example, averaging 41/9/6 against the Suns in the 92-93 finals. But, he'll have his chance to do so.
