I don't think San Diego would want RG3 if they're drafting Mariotta. But even so I'd seriously consider just the #5 for Rivers+17+48. And then we try to flip RG3 somewhere else for another pick. Very interesting IMO.Ruzious wrote:Rivers is really good, but he's 33, and the Skins should be in rebuild mode, so I'd say NO. Don't go for a quick fix when you have so many problems.
I'd be against IF it was simply Washington giving up a ton of picks for Rivers. But it's not - it's Washington trading down from #5 to get more picks AND Rivers. So you get a top tier starting QB, another starter at #17, and you would expect the guy at #48 to also be a major contributor. That fills 3 holes for the price of one.
I like Rivers and would expect him to play at a high level for at least another 3 years. And you haven't lost any future assets to acquire him, so you can still continue building the rest of your team throughout that time.
That's also enough of a window to find the next QB IMO. Maybe they can even offer Kirk a 2 year extension and continue grooming him with the intent that he's the next guy. Or even if they keep Kirk for this year and draft a QB high next year, they still have 2 years to prepare him.
Gotta figure that any Rivers trade would have to make some sense for SD. They're not going to give him away.

Re: You down with RG3? (The WizFans 'Skins Thread)
Well I added RG3 in the deal because he is on a cheep deal, he would not coast much to bring back and you get too young QB's chances are one of them will be able to start for you and the competition is good. It also justifies the deal and signifies a need to move on. Rivers is a nice stop gap QB, We can draft another guy to groom up behind him like Chris Bonner. Extend Rivers for 2 or 3 more years and get the next guy ready.

Apparently, the Skins are on the hook for only 4 mil / 1 year, so I can respect them trading for him rather than hoping he'd get cut and then hoping he'd sign here. He was apparently pretty bad for TB after being very good for SF. Supposedly, it's because of the system - and Washington will be playing a defensive system similar to SF's - hence optimism by the Skins.

Everyone,
This thread is going to be locked a week from today.
We already have a Washington Redskins Forum on RealGM and ask you to redirect discussion there. We have several solid NFL communities and believe a solid one could be build for Washington as well.
Please let me know if there are any questions.
Have a great Easter and Passover Weekend.

The Redskins board has been around for a while, I doubt forcing people into posting over there is going to do much good...

I speak for myself only. I'm very happy posting my comments right here. I enjoy reading what the Wizards fans have to say about the Washington Redskins and RG-III. It's a different perspective that I would never get from a football only site. Basketball people talking football.
I doubt you'll find me over there talking to myself like last year.
My thought about removing the thread are the same as when I read the article about the bright young man from Mensa below.

EDIT: I enjoy reading LyricalRico comments about basketball and what ever else he has to say.

Re: The WizFans Washington professional football thread
Haven't we been here before ?
All that will happen is, people will post even less then they already do about the Skins.. Which honestly isn't that much. As is, its probably a good thing that Google would snatch the posts we actually are doing. That at least would bring people to the site.
Anyway, members here will start to slip in posts in other threads about them.
Then eventually someone will bump a thread or start a new one about the Skins.
Mods will object.
Members will eventually rebel ... Then we will finally have a thread again...
Then someone from the top will try to shut it down again and force the conversation to the other board.. Where no one will go..
Rise.. Repeat.
Not sure what the solution to getting people to that other thread. I would suspect, maybe the Skins not sucking is a good place to start... After that.. Ads ? Marketing ?
They aren't a good team and haven't been for a while. It was a ghost town around here for a while when the Wizards sucked as well.

Re: The WizFans Washington professional football thread
We already have football forums and we made some inroads last year on some of the forums.
The Warriors Forum complained when I locked their thread last year and many said we would never get anything going on the 49ers forum.
Well, look at the 49ers forum now.
If we allow a thread on a basketball forum, then it takes away from the football forum and we have to allow it everywhere.
One thing I do allow is shadow topics but not for big individual threads like this one.
If there is ever news, a thread can be moved here and then back to The Washington Redskins Forum leaving behind a shadow topic.
I would also suggest using the MyForums feature.
This way you have all of your favorite RealGM Forums on the same page.

Re: The WizFans Washington professional football thread
Skins have won 22 games over the last 6 years. Niners have won 44 in the last four years. And there are a ton of GS and other CA fans I assume.
Demand and Supply.
These are not similar things. Punishing the few people that are actually posting on this web site about the Skins just doesn't seem like a winning formula. Hell, this isn't even the most active basketball forum as the Wizards are just starting to be a playoff team again and getting some national attention.
Timing is important for these kind of things. I just think there is a riper opportunity to do this after there is more demand for Redskins and Wizards related stuff. I suspect your success in getting people to move over to football forums would be connected to that. Good or on the rise football team and active basketball forum.
Just my feedback for what its worth. I think all this will achieve if you do it right now by forcing people there is ...
pissing off your loyal Wizards forum posters here.
less Skins talk period. Less google results on redskins related stuff. Google some Wizards related stuff. You will find our posts here. We are driving traffic.
I get the motivation. But the timing is not good and TIMING IS EVERYTHING

The timing works for me. The skins forum outside of here that I have been posting at - kffl.com - is likely shutting down their message boards soon (since they sold out their fantasy football part to USA Today.com), and I'd welcome a vitalized skins forum at realgm. Besides, Rico's been asking us nicely for a long time to go there. It's time we helped him out.

Re: The WizFans Washington professional football thread
It sounds like the RealGM is making change...I think you are picking low hanging fruit on the tree, when you should be proactively prospecting for new clients elsewhere. There is nothing stopping the basketball fans from posting on the NFL site. However, the fans here seem to have a thirst for intelligent NBA related material.
There are a few off topic threads on the Wizards site. However, the forums provide a convenience for people to communicate with other BASKETBALL minded people. A point you might be underestimating.
Social Data: Why Marketers Should Proceed With Caution
http://businessintelligence.com/bi-insights/social-data-marketers-proceed-caution/
1.) You’re not getting the full picture.
"It’s critical that marketers to know how to profile and segment their audience according to demographics. What we know about an audience, though, is limited by what individuals choose to share about themselves online. For instance, an estimated 83 million Facebook accounts are fake. Furthermore, social data is often unverifiable or incorrect. For this reason, don’t assume that information collected about one demographic is conclusive."
4.) Keyword and topic searches can under-deliver.
"Brands want to be able to engage in the conversations that matter most to them. Keyword and topic searches, therefore, are the bread and butter of an organic marketing strategy. When it comes to keywords, however, you might be dealing with a lot of smoke.
Due to the high volume of “neutral” posts online, keyword searches often yield lots of meaningless mentions and noise that provide zero insights. Most chatter on social media isn’t about brands and can distract marketers from the information that they’re missing. Overall, marketers need a robust data-collection strategy but should keep close watch on the analytics."

This is unfortunate. Others have already articulated the problems with this decision; consider this reply a "hear, hear".
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.
