Re: Bruno Caboclo discussion thread
i really hate this move by the raptors, its bothers me that the coach couldn't find any mins for bruno esp. the talent glut we have in the 2nd unit...
my opinion has always been bruno will be this raptors starting 4 when he develops as he has the size and length to be that player, a versatile player who can play on both forward positions.

If Bruno doesn't start contributing next season, what's the point of bringing him on instead of stashing him in Europe and not paying his salary?

He has a guaranteed contract & from what I have read even if he was a 2nd round pick, there was a promise to his agent that he would be with the team.

* Props to the man, the myth, the legend......TZ.

Re: Bruno Caboclo discussion thread
its true this was a waste of a year but why are you guys in a rush? he barely can speak the language and hes like 19. Pretty sure practicing with NBA players did him some good rather than stashing him away in europe where coaches can give 2 ****s about him. Here, everyone understands his situation and are constantly working with him so he can contribute soon.
Id rather him learn the NBA game now rather than hitting up europe, learning a new culture there, then coming over to n.america then star all over.

Coaching and management has been all over the place with their priorities and messages the last two seasons.
"It's a growth process." = Obvious effort to win as many games as possible at the expense of development.
"We have a defensive focus." = 25th in the league in defense while our best defensive lineups and players see more limited minutes.
Now, I don't know if Bruno was really ready to see many minutes at all but I can't for the life of me come up with any ideas about what we did for him this season. Bebe as well.

I love how Casey and Masai was sending mixed messages beginning of the season. Casey was saying "Development time is over", and how the team was in a win now mode, and Masai was talking about how this season is still a growing process for not only Jonas and Ross, but also with Bruno and Bebe.

Re: Bruno Caboclo discussion thread
Do people consider it a waste of a year for him because he couldn't get minutes in garbage time? One of the critical goals was to get him to learn English, and so far he's progressing. He's still in the gym 24/7 working on his game and practicing with other NBA talent. That's way better than stashing him on some European team that doesn't give two doo doos about him.

All he needs is a corner three and learn how to play defense on his own man. That's all I want from him this season, then he can extend out to the other parts of his game.

Re: Bruno Caboclo discussion thread
I can't get over how impatient some fans are with him and this franchise. I really can't understand people saying this was a waste of a year. Don't collegiate players benefit from doing a red shirt year? I don't see how this is any different.
Bruno benefits tremendously from everything he's exposed to this year, so long as he doesn't get lazy, or lose confidence in himself. If he can remain positive and continue to work hard. The sky is the limit for him. Next year, he'll already be accustomed to the fitness regimen, diet, teamates, coaching staff, city, language, level of competition.
While I don't expect him to get a ton of time next year, I do expect him to get a lot more than he did this year and I expect he'll be a totally different player on the court. He'll still make a lot of rookie mistakes, but he'll learn from them.
I would like to see him in real game action at times next year. Not just in garbage time to see how he does with key players. Then we'll all get a better assessment of how he's progressing. Like a previous poster said. I think he'll be great in SL.

I wouldn't say it's a waste of a season. They learned english, practiced against NBA players, practiced with NBA coaches, in an NBA facility. That's gotta mean something. It sucks we can't really see it, but it's probably not much different than if they played 500 minutes this year. Are those 500 minutes going to really do determine what he pans out to, or is it the other stuff that is important?
Also, somebody has to be the 13th, and 14th man on a team that gets no minutes right?
