Draft Prospects

Post#1 » by City of Trees » Tue Apr 7, 2015 9:20 pm

The NCAA season is over and its time to start evaluating players in the 2015 NBA draft.

If the Kings pick at #6 I'm thinking Cauley-Stein is an ideal fit. I've been on this train all year so no reason to jump now. I think he would fit well at PF next to Cousins. His ability to protect the paint and his PnR Defense is something the Kings desperately need.

Also i have Karl Towns going #1 over Okafor.

I dont like WCS at all. He cannot score what so ever. I like Stanley Johnson or Winslow. I get the protect the paint aspect from WCS, but I am intrigued by Gay at the 4 and Johnson or Winslow at the 3. I also dont love WCS in Karl's system.

He's not that big of a scorer but neither was Ilbaka when he entered the league. WCS mechanics aren't bad so there could be potential there. But even without his offensive game developing he should still be a player who is in the league for many years.

Winslow is second on my wish list at #6. I'm not that big of a fan playing Rudy at the 4 come playoff time. Drafting Winslow could mean moving Gay at some point or watching him walk when his current contract is up.

Winslow will probably be gone by then from what I've heard and knowing the positional needs of some of the teams above us like Lakers/Magic

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if we're looking at wings, I'd prefer if they could play the two or Rudy could play the 4. We have a lot of holes and I wouldn't personally select a kid who had the same role as our second best player. I don't think Rudy's market matches his talent for various reasons. Maybe Winslow/Johnson or whoever can play with Rudy though

Not to say I'm right, there are a lot of ways to go about it

I have Towns, Okafor, Russell, and Mudiay going top 4. At 5-7 i have Winslow, WCS, and Johnson. Kings potentially will be taking one of these three players. Johnson is good but SG three years in a row? Are we the new Detroit lions taking WR every year?

Lakers and Magic have point guards so I'm thinking one will drop.

I personally think we are going to unload the pick for vet help but I'm interested to see how it plays out. I love talking picks though. That's what's good about being a lottery team, our season actually ends after playoff teams (lottery)

It's gonna be an ugly draft for us.

Towns and Russell will be gone.
Okafor doesn't fit.
Mudiay is risky because he is not athletic enough for a guy who can't shoot.
Winslow will probably be gone, but he's the obvious choice.
Cauley Stein is risky.
Hezonja could probably replace Casspi and Derrick Williams, but that's not much.
I haven't scouted Johnson enough. Need to scout more. From what I've seen, I'm a little worried.

Sorry but who do the Lakers have at PG where they pass on Russell or Mudiay?

I still don't think this is a draft full of star potential, but there should be a good player in the range where the Kings pick. I'm not sure how much Cauley-Stein would effect this team moving forward but he's a decent prospect. If the Kings needed a center I would hope the Kings would be all over him. Winslow and Johnson are still my two favorites. Porzingis is a player that you look at highlights and you think, "this is the next Pau Gasol" but then you're like, "not". Major upside pick and I wouldn't be surprised to see him climb on draft night. Kaminksy is interesting as well. Will he climb? Or fall? If I were a team looking for someone that could produce points at PF/C it would be hard to pass up what looks like a guarantee to some degree. I'd be surprised if he busted. He looks like Andrea Bargnani at the least to me. Do I like him on the Kings? No, not at all. I don't think with Cousins and Gay there are enough shots and I think he operates in a manner to similar to Cousins.

I'm hoping for Winslow or Johnson, not because I see a ton of upside, but because I don't see that anywhere else in this draft without a huge risk involved and I can see the role player qualities that this team needs in both of them. With Rudy at the 4, Johnson or Winslow are both perfect for this idea of "positionless" basketball.

Obviously we don't know the order yet, but as of now, with the teams in front of the Kings I don't see many teams in major need of a SG/SF like Winslow. The top 3 has to be Towns, Okafor, and Russell, no two ways about it. Then you have right now the Magic and the Lakers. The Lakers are a maybe, but Orlando would have zero room for Winslow. I still think workouts will set the draft order this year again.

I'd be okay with almost anyone except Kaminsky. He won't be able to hide his lack of athleticism with that senior savvy anymore, but with his shooting touch and the league's increasing reliance on it, he'll probably find a somewhat limited role somewhere. Just not on the Kings.

Didn't Toronto already go down this road with Rudy at the 4? I think it's proven Rudy is a different/worse player with a little more weight on him. On the flip side of that if Rudy stays at his current weight while at the 4 he could get abused down low when he goes against playoff caliber teams.

I get the positionless basketball philosophy here. I'm just not on board yet with playing bigs who aren't really bigs.

For those of you who don't know a lot about Cauley-Stien:

Watch the strengths video. Kings desperately need his defense at PF. Shooting could then be addressed in trades and FA.

Karl's system isnt dependent on having a defensive stopping PF. I would argue that we need a stretch four more. Cousins is becoming an excellent defender. Problem is he keeps getting double and triple teamed.

Is Rudy at 4 a permanent plan for Karl? The times he played Rudy at the 4, it actually looked like a viable move under Karl's system.

If so, I think we should be looking at SFs in the draft. Winslow would be a great pick but he won't drop outside top-5, imo. Stanley Johnson is another guy that can fit but he lost a lot of steam during march madness. He was bit of exposed after several performances.

But if we decide that Rudy won't be the full time PF, I'll say we draft WCS and call it a day, imo. He reminds me of a Tyson Chandler type of player.

If the Kings are going to move Rudy to the 4, which I don't like, but if they are then Winslow is their guy. I think they will need to be drafting at #5 to get him tho.

I don't think so. Their SFs are Mo Harkless, Tobias Harris, and Aaron Gordon.

I don't think Harkless is going to keep them from drafting Winslow.
They might view Aaron Gordon as a PF.
Harris will be a restricted free agent, so he might not be there next year.

It could have been the shooting that was the key factor, but we just saw Rudy at the 3/4 with Casspi and Cuz and it looked good. They went on a bit of winning streak if I recall. 8-) He's not a full time 4 but he should play many minutes with another shooter, that's going to change the entirety of what this team can do.
