getting stabbed at 3pm minding your own business in the suburbs...not the same thing as getting stabbed at 4am in a club in the city. I guarantee you alcohol was involved here as well.

It's about personal responsibility. Thabo & Pero made a poor decision...and ended up in jail.

I doubt team leader and captain AL Horford, devoted husband and new father was at the club at 4AM on gameday.

And as a black man let me reiterate...nothing good happens at 4AM. I've seen too many young brothers shot, arrested or otherwise during the wee hours of the night. And there reasons for being out that late are NEVER positive/productive/responsible.

Going to the club on gameday...bad idea. Staying out til 4AM in NYC and getting arrested on gameday...COMLETELY YOUR FAULT.

But I digress. I will resign before UGA shuts me down for having an unpopular opinion.

First....lol! I think the same thing in threads around here.

But 2nd, like I said you can name incidents where something has happened...the problem is there are MILLIONS more that nothing happened. Despite what we want to believe, getting arrested at the club is a relatively rare occurrence. And lets not act like all clubs are created equal. They weren't at the NY equivalent of Central Station. Going to a upscale club is no more or less likely to lead to an incident than a late Applebee's run.

Look at it like this, Chuck E Cheese has quite a few incidents that has occurred there...yet we wouldn't blame a athlete for going to chuck e cheese with his kid because 99 times out of 100 nothing is going to happen. I see upscale clubs as the same. I am never going to be okay with players going to trap clubs, but there is a reason Jordan would be in the Gold Club IN THE PLAYOFFS. because his type of thing generally doesn't happen at good clubs.

Damn, we need you guys to beat the Nets tonight. I wonder if those cops were Nets fans. :dontknow:

All kidding aside, hopefully Copeland and the two women have a speedy recovery.

i dont think this is "one" incident, and im sure the crime rate in manhattan from 2am-6am is alot higher then the crim rate in sandy springs in the early afternoon.

not putting any blame on them for being out or for what happened. but the way you view crime in the city is way off.

the hawks could role out 5 fans selected at random and beat the nets. this has no bearing on tonites game. we are going to get smashed by 15-20 points easy.

I don't see being out at 4 am as anything that bad for NBA players. Yeah I work from 8 am so it wouldn't be good idea for me. They start "working" from 7 to 10.30 pm (ok not exactly, first some shoot around, coach meetings etc). After the game they do their rehab, interviews and might be around midnight. So their 4 am is like my 8 pm in pub.

Not viewing crime just pointing out that victim blaming is a bit silly. It's the equivalent of "but how was she dressed". If they went to a high crime area that time of night then yes, that is a bad decision. But saying going out at night "nothing good ever happens" despite the fact that it generally doesn't is heaping unnecessary blame on people. Good stuff happens all the time that time of night...bad things happen too. But depending on your location, the expectation of bad things happening is and should be greatly diminished.

Drunk rock climbing...that's something to pull the "that's just stupid, what the hell were you thinking" card. Hanging out with your teammate is just not where I think that card should be pulled. It ignores the truth of the matter and applies a much higher incident rate than truly occurs. Literally hundreds of NBA players were in a club last night. Thousands over the last couple of weeks. 3 didn't have a great night...hardly time to label them idiots for going out.

JESUS

One of the Hawk players who was arrested, Thabo Sefolosha, was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct after he refused to disperse and then “charged at an officer,” a police spokeswoman said.

The other Hawk arrested, Pero Antic, was charged with obstructing governmental administration, menacing and disorderly conduct. While Mr. Sefolosha was being arrested, the police said, Mr. Antic “physically grabbed another police officer.”

If you actually charge a police officer or grab one that is not a misdemeanor. So clearly, that's not what happened.

A friend got this charge. There was something went down at the club, his girl twisted her ankle and he stayed there with her. Cop comes over and says "Who the **** are you? Get out of here." He says "I'm her boyfriend, i was staying with her." cop says,"did I ask you who you were? Get over there" pointing to another corner. So he stands up and and starts to walk away and says "Yeah, you did ask me who I was." Got arrested for obstruction, and menacing(you know...when he stood up...that was an aggressive action). No did he say the "you did ask" in a smarta$$ kinda way, but this is what gets you such light charges.

Yup, Jalen Rose has touched on this many times. NBA players in the club after midnight is no different than any regular Joe Schmo going to happy hour after work. Being at happy hour doesn't impair your ability to go back to work the next morning or make you a bad husband, father or citizen of the earth so this faux outrage over guys going out after a game and over 12 hours before their next game is really ridiculous. If getting arrested at an upscale club in NYC at 4am is such a common occurrence then this city will shut down and its economy will go in the tank as the millions of millionaires that frequent these establishments 7 days a week, 365 days out the year wouldn't find the appeal.

This wasn't some strip club in Muncie, IN, this was a place that you're just as likely to find Leonardo DiCaprio sitting across from Donald Trump. You can't utilize overall crime statistics of a city with over 8 million residents either to frame the likelihood of a crime occurring at this establishment, in fact the unlikelihood of a crime occurring in that particular area of the city more than helps explains the police being overzealous and rounding up whomever stood out (6'7" black man dressed in all black and a 6'11" white guy that looks like a biker hitman stand out). Just taking a cursory glance at the CompStats from the 10th precinct and my own neighborhood precinct, there were 400% more felony assaults in my area over the past year as compared to where this incident happened......and I don't even live in a bad area.

I thought he was sober and the cop didn't realize he just always looks intoxicated.
