MLB.tv Blackout Policy

Post#1 » by Lateral Quicks » Fri Apr 10, 2015 1:35 pm

I've seen a few people mention that MLB.tv has relaxed its "archaic" blackout policy for local games, but I can't find any evidence of this. I'd like to subscribe, but most of the games I'd want to watch are Jays games. Are people just getting around this with a VPN, or does MLB.tv now let you watch any game, any where? Anyone have experience with this?

I was curious about this myself, and decided to test it out with a one-month subscription. So far after three games, there has been no blackouts for Jays games whatsoever. Upon further research, apparently Rogers has the right to enforce blackouts, but has not done so since 2013. The past 2 seasons have been blackout free, including the playoffs.

In short, you should be able to watch games, but the risk is, Rogers could potentially change this at any time.

Thanks for that. Very interesting... I may just try it out then.

No commercials, it just shows a 'commercials in progress' screen.

From Hamilton, I was watching Jays' games in HD with RogersAnyplace tv a couple of years ago with my sister's account (Rogers customer). Not sure if such an arrangement can still work.
