And that's with Jennings going down and a big mid-season trade messin up our chemistry. Not like this hasn't been stated before, but doesn't that make you feel good about our future. Jennings coming back will only help. Our draft should likely be a good SF like Johnson or Mario. And we have $15 million in cap space. That's 3 new players added to this .500 team. Possibly 4 new players if the Warriors match our max offer to D Green
If we're lucky we go over the cap to re-sign Monroe after. Can't see how we're not battling for top 5 in the East next year

I would be very surprised if Detroit isn't a top 6 team in the east next season barring any injuries.
A full offseason with the team building chemistry will do wonders.
The fact that we went .500 with all the crazy moves is pretty impressive.

I'm excited but I think we only finish top five if we get Monroe back or at least get some good value from him. Otherwise we're likely only to squeak in I think.

Having Monroe back for depth would be killer, but he's not going to stay.

Otherwise, yep, the future looks bright. Another year for our younger guys to develop.

Monroe should be a wash. I trust SVG to use that salary for a player with comparable, if not superior impact.

Given the improved chemistry, an actual training camp with all our new pieces etc we should be in that 42-50 win range. Even though a pick is good for our future I'm not counting on that for immediate impact, but I could see us pick up a mid-level type vet to bring some stability to the SF position.

Definitely excited about the future.

1. Cavs will be #1 next year
2. Hawks will bring back the same core
3. Bulls have a top 5 system IMO.
4. Heat -new big 3

I think you're right. Other than those three teams I don't see a team who will be flat out better.

5-8 will be fought by:

5. Raptors - same core but they seem to have plateaued.
6. Wizards - front court is getting old
7. Bucks - not that great with mcw
8. Boston - I think they overachieved this year
8. Pacers - George/Hibbert
9. Hornets - Al Jeff is declining
10. Pistons - stability enough? + pick and f/a
11. Knicks - melo/draft pick/cap

It'll all be dependent on how Jacksons and Monroes free agency go and what SVG can do with the draft and bringing in free agents, but we saw a lot of development this year despite all the injuries and changes.
I trust SVG will add to what he's built this season.

The east is very open. The guys coming back from injuries are still big question marks (including jennings) and there's a lot of young teams that haven't really got everything together yet.

If I'm not mistaken they had a winning record without Moose... using his money... trading Jennings... plus a lotto pick this team could actually jump into the top 4 in the East... they have already shown they can beat the best in the conference.

I predicted we would make the playoffs as the 7th or 8th seed the past two years (probably higher than that after acquiring Smith/Jennings initially) and we've come up short. So until we actually clinch a playoff spot, I will not project us as a playoff team.

This team is 7-15 with Reggie Jackson. Imagine that. I didn't even realize that.

Like 7-3 without Moose and 0-13 with him. Moose will be gone probably, the leauge seems to be moving to fours who can shoot, that helps RJ game too

True. With Josh 5-23. Without. With Jennings after Josh. Without. With RJ and Moose. Without Moose. We've had like 10 seasons in one lol

If I remember right:
5-23 with Smith
12-4 with just Jennings
4-6 with Augustin

Lol we have had one rollercoaster of a season. We lose a bunch of games once we move Singler/Augustine/Jerebko and then we win some when Monroe goes down. It's been crazy.

Two things are for sure: Drummond has improved this year and we stole Reggie Jackson. Even if it hasn't worked the best thus far.. once we get more shooters on the team we will be better off. This offseason is important and we can reload our depth how Van Gundy wants and what benefits Dre and RJ. I'm very very excited for next year. This team is a playoff team!

Monroe is unrestricted. The team that signs him doesn't need to give us anything, and we don't have the right to match.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
