Who would you guys rather see making the playoffs in the West - Thunder or Pelicans?

Pelicans. This way Davis can evaluate where he's at and make meaningful improvements for next season. He also gets his feet wet in a playoff setting. He's never been there before, so he may as well start learning now when there'd literally be zero pressure on the Pelicans to do anything.

Seeing the blaze of destruction Westbrook would leave in defeat is tempting though.

I want to see young Anthony Davis in the playoffs, and considering how deep the west is, this might be his best shot in the immediate future. Seeing extreme Westbrook in the playoffs for a few games would be fun, but I'm more intrigued by Davis.

I also like to see guys who’ve been in the league for a while get a shot in the playoffs (tyreke’s in his 6th season). I’m a fan of holiday, pondexter and ryan anderson, too.

I guess Thunder, because I'd like to see the Pelicans get zoomed up to the top 3 in the lottery. Otherwise I fear by trading Nerlens and their 2014 pick (which became the tenth pick) and now their 2015 pick (protected 1-3 and 20-30 until 2018, then 1-3 and 25-30 for a couple of years to be conveyed to Houston), the Pelicans may have trapped themselves and Davis (and my sympathies are more with him) in a more mediocre version of the David Robinson trap, I guess LeBron in Cleveland first time round had a version of this too, where the team isn't bad enough to get a second really good player, but they maybe aren't quite good enough to win. Now had balls bounced the other way (luck, matchups, sample sizes etc in the playoffs) and what not maybe those teams could have have won and I don't think the Pelicans will be drafting as low as those teams did. But, having traded out of the last two drafts (unwisely imo) this might be one of their last chances to get someone who fits the same timeline as Davis (they may get a bit better and be drafting too low, and if they did luck into something in a couple of years time they might well panic trade out of a need for something "now" to retain Davis).

Plus Westbrook attempting to single-handedly gun down 10+SRS team could be fun (though with a very slight back of my mind concern if the Thunder did somehow keep advancing they'd risk Durant if it seemed vaguely possible, though so far as I'm aware it shouldn't be).

I have this bad feeling that Warriors are going to undress whichever team they play in the 1st round and I think the Thunder will be embarrassed more than the Pelicans. I have noticed it and others have too (on the latest Simmons podcast they mentioned it) that RW seems to be running out of gas. His superhuman stretch with him playing with that much energy was always going to be unsustainable in the playoffs if he didn't get to take a breather in the RS and with no KD he hasn't had the chance. I am torn and kinda don't wanna see the GOAT run out of gas while getting spanked by the Warriors. If they can find a way to rest him and still make the playoffs then I am all for it.

Definitely would prefer the Pelicans. Not a fan of the Thunder at all...

Honestly, I don't even care. I'd be glad to make it, but wouldn't be against a lotto pick either.

If i am a Thunder fan, i'd much prefer pick 14. The playoffs will not end well. Get some quality compensation for a rough season. We know Presti does his best work come draft time.

Yeah, that's what I'm pretty much saying if they miss out, part of me wants to see Russ go ham for a few more games too though. Either way Presti has a pick from 14-18 most likely (though when I played ESPN's lottery machine, my 3rd try OKC got the 3rd pick...).

I also think it would be better to not bring Ibaka back at all. He had knee surgery, give him more rest and let him be 100% for next year. I saw that they ruled him out for the rest of the RS but he really has no business being back this year without KD.

Yeah, either way its over vs. GSW. I'm just hoping the Spurs beat them down.

https://rootingforgoliath.wordpress.com/2015/04/14/the-best-damn-all-nba-teams-period-3rd-team/ - My All-NBA Third Team. First and second team coming later this week. Long read, but worth it!

I've been terrible about the blog, but I'm going to be way more active from now on and I plan to have write-ups on playoff games I watch at least every other day or so, possibly more often depending on free time. Now is the time to start keeping up, because I'm going to be producing a ton of content from now on as school is winding down.

 I've had a piece on Jabari Parker half written for so long I'm completely breaking it apart and writing a piece on the top rookies. I might wait for the playoffs to type that and instead focus on a piece about players that are somehow completely under the radar (like how the hell is George Hill having a 21+ PER, +9.5 on/off, and the team being 23-12 with him in the starting lineup and 15-31 without him not the biggest story on the Pacers over PG13's return or Demar Derozan finding his way back to form in March averaging 24/5/4 on 56 TS in the 21 games since).

George Hill needs to be discussed. On this forum, on the blog, whatever. I don't know what's going on with him, but it looks like everyone just missed the fact that he was a crazy good offensive player. He's having like a 2014 Dragic-type season right now. This is something I really want to look into, because everything is telling us right now that George Hill should be the offensive star of that team, and not Paul George.

Oh yeah and I noticed why too since I've been watching their last 5 or so games live and I went back and watched some of their hands from earlier in the season but I'm going to wait until I can type it up. Still have 3 incomplete projects due by the end of the month. :noway:

Nice writeup -- thorough and well thought out. Only issue is i'm not sure duncan qualifies as a center this season. I was deciding on my own all NBA teams earlier this week, which led me to look at different players on NBA.com:

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/tim_duncan/

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/pau_gasol/

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/jimmy_butler/

As you can see, duncan is listed as a forward only, whereas gasol is listed as forward-center, and butler listed as guard-forward. I’ll reach out to a few beat writers on twitter to see if they can confirm.

Thanks.

Yeah, the Duncan thing is obnoxious. Lowe has Duncan as his 3rd team center as well, so I think I'm okay. But like there's no way Pau Gasol is any more of a center than Duncan, and there's no way I'm slotting Duncan and Leonard or LeBron as the same position on my ballot. Duncan is a big, that's the way I look at it.
