Not so sure. Detroit is a tough sell to free agents and we didn't do well in the market last summer.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Greg is a good center that will play well once he leaves here. He may not play winning basketball (which will depend on his team and teammates, of course), but he's going to look like a better player once he leaves.

Why? He's a center. It's that simple.

Monroe is unrestricted. The team that signs him doesn't need to give us anything, and we don't have the right to match.

Only we can give him an extra year, though. He's not talented or marketable enough where he should leave that money on the table.

It's possible Monroe and his camp might not want that extra year under the current salary cap. He's young enough to cash in with another major deal after this upcoming one and with how much the cap is going to rise there probably wouldn't be much, if any, money left on the table compared to what the first year of his next contract will be. If anything Monroe has shown the confidence to bet on himself and I'm guessing it will be no different this summer.

Jackson is 8 and 16 in games he's played for the Pistons .333

Including the games played with Smith, Jennings still had a higher win percentage .414

Jackson has had 30 Turnovers in 5 games 1.8 A/T Ratio. Jennings had less than that in the 15 games he played before his injury 3.85 A/T Ratio.

All that cap space means nothing if there aren't players willing to come here without being overpaid. And right now, every other team is willing to overpay too, because the cap is about to jump. So we have to overpay on an already inflated market value. That almost negates the whole idea that "we can overpay without worrying about it." The entire league is getting a higher salary cap, not just the Pistons. And while some teams already have allocated some of those future funds, a good majority have not.

I don't know every potential free agent available this coming off season, but of the ones I'm aware of, they either aren't coming here, or aren't worth what the Detroit price would be. We're looking at probably another off season similar to last year.

From what I gathered from Suns fans is that he doesn't play defense and his shot is streaky just like a developing KCP. I doubt we need more of those.

I think Danny Green might be our only realistic target. I don't like the idea of tying up cap space for any of the RFAs on the market and have them match within 3 days while we miss out on some potential key signing. RFAs in that case may not even be advisable IMO. Unless we go all in and try to get my favorite, Danilo Gallinari via trade somehow.

Well I think Gerald will be cheap to get and looks like when gets consistent PT he plays well. Any thing will be a upgrade over Prince and Caron. Not many other realistic SF options out their.

He's definitely more of a 2 than a 3 though. He looks like he has size because of his hops but he's shaped as a prototypical 2. He never really played the 3 except spot minutes anyways when he was with the Suns I believe.

I don't think he'll be that much of an upgrade over CB or Prince. Our best chance is through the draft IMO for wings.

Oh yeah of course the draft is our best chance. But 9 times out of 10 that rookie player doesn't have a positive impact on the game. A rotation of the rookie and him would be decent.
Plus Caron and Prince are horrible as SF IMO their real value is on the bench and locker room for their leadership. Singler was better than them.
