Meeks not completely healthy

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Fri Jan 23, 2015 12:46 am

When Jodie Meeks was recovering from the lower-back injury he suffered early in training camp, Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy did his best to undersell Meeks' potential effect when he returned.

Scoring 34 in a 3-point barrage the night before New Year's Eve made Van Gundy's words a little hollow, but since, as the adrenaline has worn off, Meeks hasn't produced at the level he did in Los Angeles last season.

That's because he's not completely healthy just yet.

"I don't feel like I'm at 100 percent. Pretty good shape (though)," Meeks said. "Good enough to help the team out. I don't feel like I'm all the way to where I was last year."

He has fallen down pretty noticeably since his 3 point barrage that one game. That explains a lot..

for what it's worth when I was at the raps-pistons game on the 12th I noticed that meeks had something wrapped around his back when he was sitting on the bench, not sure if it was an ice pack or just a wrap but still.

back injuries usually take some time to come fully back from.

Backs are VERY tricky - and this one they don't even know what caused it still in the first place. His back could never be the same, and what he's dealing with now could be his new normal.

Meeks has been struggling with his shot but also looks awful driving to the hoop. He looks super stiff/straight up on drives. I wonder if that has to do with his back?

so I know people are already calling meeks a bad signing and whatnot, but he is definitely playing (and most importantly, shooting) better these days.

back injuries are tough, and being out for a couple months as a shooter is especially difficult. here meeks says how he feels:

"I was out for a long time," he said. "In retrospect, it's really January for me. It's not even the halfway point. Finding my rhythm now but unfortunately the season is over. Just gotta build for next year."

meeks is shooting 43% from 3 in March and April (21 games) on 3.2 attempts per game. I know he had a disappointing season but I really think it's premature to talk about getting rid of him this offeason. when healthy he's a knockdown shooter and SVG loves to run sets with him coming off screens. we don't really have a player other than him and KCP to do that and I think he could be a good bench player next year.

He never looked like he did with the lakers, so the lingering back injury makes perfect sense. He's got the whole offseason to get that right.
I was pretty excited when SVG signed Meeks. I hope he gets back to where he was before coming over.

His shooting is big for us of course but his ability to draw fouls is just as big, especially if his shot isn't falling.

Great bump. I had forgotten about this.

Would you guys be keen for a Meeks for Kevin Martin straight swap.

Similar contracts and Martin seems to be that shooter you need by reading thew above posts.

Meeks is younger and I think fits better with Wiggins.

I'm sure that this will still end up being a great signing. I definitely would not move him this offseason. Next year, I could see him really pushing KCP to develop into a more consistent player which is great.

Our bench gets out scored every single game. It's definitely a major weakness for us. IF Meeks can give us 15 or so pts off the bench next season it'll be a huge benefit to us.

Based on what he's been doing recently, i'd say so

I would but I think most Wolves fans wouldn't like it. Why do you think he fits better with Wiggins?

Younger and does not seem to be too selfish with the ball in hand. (Correct me if I am wrong).

Martin has played for a long time and been a good scorer in all those years so I think Wiggins defers to him alittle which is bad for his devlopment. I don't think he would defer to Meeks and meeks would benefit from having the kick outs Wiggins and Rubio will create.

I'll take 10-12ppg. Just shoot 38% or better from 3.
