7 assists per game, if hes not a pg then neither is derrick

No he isn't. Is Lebron a PG, Wade, TMAC hell even Kobe.

Sure why not, Lebron has been called an oversized PG before. If you play like a guard, on ball most of the time and wrack up 7+ assists per game, you're performing the functions of a PG.

He's SG. Not that it matters--he's clearly not as explosive as Derrick Rose.

Russell Westbrook is the correct answer.

him too, but we have to stop considering 'explosive' in a vacuum, what good is explosive if you are underperforming? We're writing off the best scorers in the game today because they aren't as 'explosive' as our former superstar as if it's some kind of victory. Harden is a more efficient scorer than Derrick has ever been. Is he technically as 'explosive' as him? maybe not. He manages to do ok though. Maybe Derrick should be less explosive but smarter, or lets say more judicious in the use of his explosion.

Not sure what you're talking about dude. YOU brought up the explosive argument, not WE. And then we corrected you on it. Nobody here is writing anyone off..you're creating strawmans and arguing something that nobody is arguing to begin with.

I think 'explosive' has a pretty clear definition and it is quite different than athletic. The fact remains, you tried to say that Harden, Lillard, Wall, Steph and Kyrie were in the same league, physically, as Derrick and that is false. I don't know how you forgot about Westbrook either, which was the correct comparison.

Derrick's 'explosiveness' allowed him to dominate match ups against the other top PG's in the league. That's why it's a good thing to have when you combine it with a ridiculous skillset, which Derrick also had.

Derrick could get to levels others guys couldn't. Partly because he was (and could still be) ridiculously good at basketball. The other reason was that he was physically superior to every PG in the league except Westbrook. He dominated his match ups because no one could match his strength, speed and quickness and he could stay in front of everyone he faced.

I think of it like this. Derrick had super saiyan mode (aka Unicorn mode). When he turned it on, it was over.

Here's the thing: Thibs rotations are so bad right now that they're actually hurting the team.

Bulls were up 25-22 when Mirotic checked in for Dunleavy towards the end of the 1st quarter to active the Jumbo lineup. Philadelphia then went on a 17-5 run against that lineup to put the game at 39-30. Hinrich and Brooks were also in, and they didn't perform well either. Rose, Butler and Dunleavy checked in for the previously mentioned players and the Bulls closed the quarter on a 22-14 run.

It just isn't a coincidence anymore. The only thing that kept Thibodeau from playing that lineup again was because Gibson had foul trouble. The only thing that kept Thibodeau from playing Hinrich over Snell was an injury. Otherwise, it's reasonable to believe the Bulls lose to Philadelphia.

Top-5 coach, Top-5 coach, Top-5 coach, but when is he actually going to show it? All I see is a coach with stubborn tactics who will only make the right adjustment when injuries or fouls force his hand. If Hinrich returns for the playoffs and we see these same exact rotations, then I don't understand how he seriously can't be condemned for it. I just don't understand why a coach is holding back superior players from playing. It makes no sense.

This.

and this:

Not this:

sco wrote:1) DRose is not too big, fast or strong anymore. That was true pre-injury, but mainly PG's have gotten bigger and faster in the past few years, where his physical advantage is largely gone. That said, just having a bigger and stronger PG puts us back on par with these teams who have had their pg's eating our lunch and this team doesn't need Rose to score more than 18-20 and play decent defense. BTW, I though his defense was pretty good tonight.

Derrick Rose makes a huge difference. His teammates seem to play better when he's in the lineup. He's become more of a true PG over the past 3 games. Amazing what one player can do for a team.
