He may look incredibly bigger, but he is definitely stronger and has definitely added mass. More and leaner muscle and less fat. Not sure why you want him so bulky, looks pretty defined for a 19 or 20 year old. He has plenty of time to do this mass adding thing. People forget that there will barely be any rookies even younger than him coming out in this years draft.

I'm a boxer and I've bulked and cut a lot of times in my life. Even during the NBA season you can add a pound of week as long as you're lifting, getting enough sleep, and are in a surplus of calories you should gain weight. Considering he got drafted him in June which has almost been a full year since he should look considerably bigger now. Not fat either when I lean bulk I put on 0.5lbs a week and I stay very lean. Heck he could have gotten so big that he coulda been cutting now too. It's just a lack of effort on his end, I do this while studying full time in medical school. If I can do it he can too.

I think what gives people pause is that he seems completely overwhelmed and nervous in the minutes he gets, but moreso that he couldn't get off the bench in the D -league. At first I'm sure people may have been sceptical off the coach's willingness to play a guy who might get called up, but them Bebe went down and didn't seem to have any trouble getting minutes. Makes you wonder how far behind even D-League level at this point. Sure he's young, but given that he's seemed to play hardly any basketball this year, you wonder just where he's ever going to get the opportunity to get those "10,000 hours". I mean, we may have to extend him before he even gets in the rotation. The longer you have to invest in his development, the better you need him to be to make it worth it. I mean does anyone here not expect whoever we draft this year to be years ahead of Bruno?

As i personal trainer i can tell you as a 19 year old with a very high metabolism it is extremely hard to put on mass especially if you haven't built up a foundation of proper workout techniques. Also he's not trying to enter any competition. its all about learning how to workout properly. gain some functional strength while maintain basketball abilities. I know the raps do a great job using bands in basketball movements. This is what they did with Jonas and he looks good.

A high metabolism doesn't mean crap man. He's a professional athlete he could learn how to do functional exercises like a squat and deadlift in a day. He could have proper form down within a week.

As for the high metabolism thing I know a guy that bulks on 4000 calories a day. Just drink a lot of liquid calories and increase the amount of fats you have. As long as he doesn't have any food intolerances that should be easy. My take is that he's just lazy and maybe he works out in the gym hard but in order to transform your body it's a 24hr job. You have to eat well and no trainer can change that other than Bruno. Figure out your macros and micros and then consistently hit them while getting enough sleep. Weigh yourself every morning, take the average each week and increase it by 0.5-1lb per week. Pretty fricking easy.

They did a horrible job on Valanciunas the general consensus in the NBA says that you can put on 25lbs of muscle over a few months in summer. THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE. A person with great genetics can put on max a pound of decent weight per week. Just because you gain weight doesn't mean you have to get slower. If Valanciunas worked out consistently with a good diet over the season he would have bulked up slowly and actually gained explosiveness.

Putting on 30lbs during the off-season is hella bad. There is no way around it (unless you're on PED ofc). But naturally it's impossible to put on that much lean muscle in a year let alone a summer. You can see a visible gut on Valanciunas, even in the summer when he was flexing next to Terrence Jones.

I don't think you should question his work ethic based on his weight. Further along you point out the ineptitude of Raps training staff, I'm sure they know what they're doing and I'm sure Bruno is doing everything they tell him.

If you're a boxer then you know that the longer your arms are the less packed with muscle they tend to seem when compared to shorter arms. There's a bigger area to cover so he may be gaining slowly but steadily. Not to say he can't bulk up, but it will be less noticeable and take longer to show.

None of this matters if he doesn't get to play... can we stash him in Europe if he's not going to play here?

Haha. I bet your one of those horrible weight belt wearing dead lifters i see in the gym lifting 400 + pound with **** form who apparently knows everything. You seem to have know Idea what is good for a kid Like Bruno. 1 week to perfect a squat or deadlift ha!
What if the kid has muscle imbalances that need to be address first. I have worked with 16-18 yr old basketball kids before and I can tell you some of those kids have terrible mobility, lack of co-ordination, and poor motor skills. of about 20 kids maybe 2 of them had a natural ability to be able to perform a squat or deadlift and even then they still dont have a full understanding of what it is there doing right or wrong. For the other 18 kids I see co-ordination issues I seen insanely tight glutes calves and hamstrings, immobile ankles, poor core and posture. It takes more than a week to develop a foundation especially if you had no clue what you were doing before. It can take months to years to develop enough experience with exercising to have that type of ability to put on that type of muscle as quick as you seem to think he can.

In summery I always ask "for who and for what?" is gaining 25-30 lbs the plan for Bruno? could be but who are we to say that right for him. Kevin Garnett had a pretty dam good career and his still a stick, but man is he strong in the post. Lets leave it for the experts to decide whats best for him, for now why dont you go back to your 5 day split, eat 5000 calories a day and worry about how you can get bigger than the next guy.

Oh and by the way anyone who really knows anything about fitness knows what i ment by functional.

Its a shame that Bruno only had 1 night of consistent play (and produced). Milwaukee game.

But, we still have his rights for a long time, and it was the plan all along for him not to get any real time this year. So everythings going as planned. No point in thinking about trading him.

Once he can speak English he needs to be stashed over seas so he can get meaningful minutes. I can't see how he's going to become a basketball player without playing in meaningful games.

You could have a 10 foot wingspan, doesn't do you much good if guys drive by you at will on the perimeter even when you're laying off of them.

Are you and other people that suggest this aware that, if he goes over seas he will still count as an active player on our roster?

wake up people

Bruno is very raw and can not play in europe...

european teams are extremely professional, you can not send any player, any time you want, and make him play wathever you want. Europe is not D-league.

I played basketball in high school and my vertical increased by 25 inches from grades 9 to 12. That's good results and I did basic 5x5 training and I can deadlift more than 400lbs raw without a belt. Most personal trainers at your local goodlife fitness don't know what they're talking about. Haha. I bet you're one of those guys, who got a crappy certification and thinks they know everything.

You can do mobility training and then workout after. At the end of the day it's about linear progression. I've done mobility training before for my squat as well and it doesn't take anymore than a month get muscles accustom to that movement.

In summery I always ask "for who and for what?" is gaining 25-30 lbs the plan for Bruno? could be but who are we to say that right for him. Kevin Garnett had a pretty dam good career and his still a stick, but man is he strong in the post. You have no idea about nutrition  I don't have to eat 5000 calories a day and 99% of the population doesn't in order to lean bulk. I'm not saying Bruno needs to gain 30lbs. I'm saying he needs to lean bulk throughout the year to make good strength and lean weight gains. He's not doing that right now, by just looking at him I can tell that. His problem is more so nutritional than his workout regime.

Oh and by the way anyone who really knows anything about fitness knows what i ment by functional.

Squats and deadlifts do they. They enhance the coordination between the nervous system and muscles. Functional strength training involves performing movements that produce resistance in a way that improves strength directly related to his basketball activities. That's what deadlifting and squats will do. They'll make him more explosive with the ball as long as he doesn't add a ton of deadweight like how Valanciunas did.

Too funny. Of course u understand functional training now that you looked it up.
http://onformfitness.com/tag/sports-injury/
Didn't your teachers tell you its not right to plagiarize someone else work?
Functional strength training involves performing work against resistance in such a manner that the improvements in strength directly enhance the performance of movements so that an individual's activities of daily living are easier to perform. Simply stated, the primary goal of functional training is to transfer the improvements in strength achieved in one movement to enhancing the performance of another movement by affecting the entire neuromuscular system.

DNA has a lot to do with it, bro. Since you're a boxing guy, consider Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns:

Image

Same weight class, but look at the height difference. Both guys have low BF%, but Hagler has a lot more muscle mass than Hearns. I doubt that Hearns lacks muscle mass out of a lack of effort. And I doubt Hagler is not cutting to a lower weight class because of a lack of effort, either. Both guys are fighting at the weight class most suitable to their body type.

Bruno still has a ways to go, but remember that he would only be a freshman in the NCAA. We basically drafted a high school kid.
