but yeah juve was the better team. lol monaco probably created better chances today then the game they beat us 3-1

lmfaooo at carvajal going suarez on mandzukic and then throwing a punch. Man is crazy

it actually was a clear goal scoring opportunity, i think the reason it wasnt a red was because morata never had full control of the ball. if you call the foul exactly where he clipped his foot then yeah it probably was outside the box, but it continued into the box (and was also hard to see) so i feel like a penalty was perfectly justified.

But it continued into the box is not a part of the ruling procedure. We could have a discussion on whether it was a clear goal-scoring opportunity. There is absolutely no discussion on whether it was a penalty.

But it continued into the box may not written in the rule book, but if contact was made before and inside the box, then you can call a pk...
Live I was certain it was inside but it should have been called outside the box with a red card to Carvalho.

How Morata getting the ball in the box with NO defenders in between him and the goal isn't a goal scoring opportunity is beyond me.

Free-kicks (and penalties) are awarded at the spot where the very first moment of a foul occurs. You can't give a penalty when the foul clearly occurs outside the area just because contact causing the foul continues into the box. I'm a little surprised we're even discussing this. It's never a penalty.

Players are unable to control such passes often enough and even if Morata did control the ball perfectly there is a defender in position to make a last ditch tackle so i don't think it's an obvious goal scoring opportunity, which is what is required for a sending-off. Having said that, i would not have opposed the decision too strongly had Carvalho in fact been sent off.

Btw, i just watched the video like 20 more times and i'm not even sure it's a foul now. Looks like Morata trips himself.

yeah the ball is in the air and you can't guarantee he's going to control it and get a shot off. Looked like a kind bounce for subasic after too. Can't 100% say its an obvious goal scoring opportunity when we see those situations not even lead to shots on net a good amount of times.

Thank you for posting, I was probably the last soccer fan in the world not to see it lol

After seeing it, I think that should be called. However it goes without saying:

1. I've SEEN MUCH WORSE with NO CALLS
2. That did look in the box IMO
3. Morata dived or was easily thrown down after the contact by Carvalho
4. No tripping from my eyes, the contact was high if I caught that right. But didn't see Carvalho used unnecessary force from behind. It seem like allowable contact but Morata sold it.
5. In the end, I think it was the proper call given the flags or attributes I would associate the sequence with. The Ref has a one time judgement call, what else can be done.

The more i'm looking at it, the more I see Morata falling down rather than being taken down...

TerStegen - Montoya Pique Mascherano Alba - Rakitic Busquets Iniesta - Messi Suarez Neymar

Time for Montoya to prove himself with Dani Alves suspended. Also, might have preferred Mathieu over Mascherano with the height PSG has.

There is a image from behind that you see the leg of Carvalho hitting Morata.

Also, I didn't see that play either till posted here

Seems like a penalty to me. You can argue for a red card, but I think the right decision was made in the end

Watching that replay it looked like each player fell on their own. Thats unfortunate for Monaco.
