TORONTO -- DeMar DeRozan is not a big fan of Paul Pierce talking about his team. The swingman addressed and swiftly dismissed the veteran's comments about the Toronto Raptors' supposed lack of "It" on Wednesday.

"Paul Pierce always gonna, he gotta say something," DeRozan said after the Raptors beat the Charlotte Hornets 92-87. "He said something last year, he's just gotta say something. Just let him talk, I could care less what he said. He just better hope Chicago — or however it gotta work — win or something, so he won't see what the 'It' is."

To clear up some confusion, the Washington Wizards actually needed the Atlanta Hawks to beat the Chicago Bulls to avoid facing Toronto. The Bulls won, so the Pierce and DeRozan will indeed meet. The two faced each other in the Nets-Raptors first-round series last season, and Pierce had the last laugh when he blocked Kyle Lowry's potential game-winning shot in the final moments of Game 7 at the Air Canada Centre. His Wizards were swept by Toronto this season, and Pierce was booed roundly when he returned to the ACC.

"We haven't done particularly well against Toronto, but I don't feel they have the 'It' that makes you worried,'' Pierce told ESPN's Jackie MacMullan for a story that was published Tuesday. "There isn't a team I look at in the Eastern Conference that makes me say, 'They are intimidating, we don't have a chance.'"

After DeRozan finished his media scrum, he walked past a few reporters gathered nearby discussing the Chicago-Atlanta game and its implications. DeRozan exited the locker room, saying, "****, I wish I see Paul Pierce." He'll get his wish on Saturday.

I don't see any real hate tbh..it's more a matter of opinion. Some people don't think running your mouth before the start of a series is a good idea and that players should let their play do the talking.

Showing support isn't about putting one player above the team, it's about putting the team above any individual person.

In this case, I don't really think it's that big of a deal. Some people like the fire, confidence and the trash talk, while other people think it's better to show humility in case it back fires. I find the worst type of people are the ones who don't have their own opinions or principles and support a player no matter what.

Funny thing is Pierce thought he would just stroll into the Wizards locker room and just hit a few big shots and maybe go deep into the playoffs. Boy was he wrong. The Wizards have zero perimeter defence aside from John Wall and he is going to be tasked with guarding Lowry. This means either Pierce or Beal will have to guard DeRozan which means DeRozan should have a field day with either one. Beal is undersized and DeRozan will post him up at every opportunity. Pierce is slow as a snail and DeRozan should attack him towards the rim with his renewed/fresh legs. Wizards have poor interior defence. And the only way I see them challenging this Raptor team is if Wall can take over and just dominate our defence which is a possibility because we just can't stop anyone from driving towards the rim. But then again, they have 3 days to prepare and Im sure they already started scouting the Wizards and Bucks a few weeks ago so they should and better have a plan for stopping Wall. Time for Casey to show up. And he better show up or else he's gone.
