Re: is Emmanuel Mudiay overrated?
Scouts say he has a great court vision with good athleticism. I guess he is a hard worker and that's the reason they say he will be a franchise player.
He could be a prospect like Exum.

If you use physical tools then what makes him a better prospect than George Lucas who has tools that are equal, or even better, than Mudiay? Swagger?

Mudiay isn't as raw as Lucas, homie. He was rated the #1 prospect in the country out of high school for a reason.

I know, I know. I'm just it takes more than physical tools and instincts. I think he's a Deron Williams caliber PG but it's hard to tell based off his competition this last year.

Manny is not as long as Lucas, but he is much bigger, his physique, frame, power, and skills around the hoop are top notch.
Also he is a point, Lucas still has to learn how to play p&r.

Re: is Emmanuel Mudiay overrated?
I think he gets underrated by some because the mispreception that the CBA isn't a quality league. It is by no means like ACB but it is definitely better than DIV I. Probably close to the NBA D-leagues.
As a prospect, you have a 6'5 PG with 6'8.5 wingspan ( and still growing) 200 pounds and athletic (not a high flyer). On top of having legit PG skills, I don't see what is there not to like. Has defensive potential to shut down other guards with his length and quickness. If he learn how to shoot, he has potential to be a legit two way PG in the league.

No. He's what you'd call a high risk, high reward prospect. He's not overrated because his ceiling is perennial all-star to superstar, but he's not a surefire number 1 pick type prospect either because there's a lot of uncertainty attached to him.
Contrary to what is often assumed, guards are often more difficult to evaluate, and therefore riskier, than bigs, as long-term prospects. The point guard position in particular is characterized by high turnover at the top. One year you're on top of the world, the next you're yesterday's news. Many of them have the "talent", and will look unstoppable in stretches. But not many have the attitude, the consistency etc. that separates the very good from the great. I don't know enough about Mudiay to determine whether he has that or not.
Do I think he'll put up 17 and 8? I'm pretty convinced he can. Would that make him the next superstar guard? Ask all the other guards who have put up 17 and 8.

If Mudiay is a high risk then so is every other player in the draft.

Re: is Emmanuel Mudiay overrated?
Maybe I should have said "high variability".
As in, judging by his tools and what you see on tape, he could be a superstar, but he could also be a net negative player on the floor, in the form of an inefficient chucking guard who takes plays off on defense. The negative version may put up stats one year or two, but would be the definition of a replaceable player.
Whereas the disappointing version of Towns, for example, is most likely still a net positive player.
I'd take a chance on Mudiay, though, personally.

Re: is Emmanuel Mudiay overrated?
How good is Mudiay if his shooting is fixed?
I think Mudiay has that freakish "it" to him that can make other PG look obsolete. He's a mix of length, strength, skillset and athleticism. It's really just a matter of improving his shot, which his 3pt% and age shows that there's room for development.
I think he's underrated because people stay away from him because they haven't seen much from him and he really went up with some weak competition in the CBA. But then this is an 18 year old kid who went up with ex-NBA guys on some instances who are probably better than most NCAA players.

There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Re: is Emmanuel Mudiay overrated?
I don't know why people keep comparing his athleticism with Rose/Wall/Westbrook, I just don't see the same explosiveness. He struggled turning the corner against Sun Yue and 38 year old Stephon Marbury in the CBA, can you imagine those guys trying to defend Rose/Wall/Westbrook? People toss around words like "athletic freak" around too much.

lol what? no
i will say Mudiay could get past Arizona's perimeter guys, the help and finish through a guy like Tarczewski unlike some people's favorite guard.

Re: is Emmanuel Mudiay overrated?
Mudiay doesn't have the explosiveness of Rose, Wall, etc., but he's so damn strong for a PG. He's built like Marcus Smart but bigger, and has far better PG skills. For me, he's my #3 or 4 guy. I tend to prefer Russell simply because Russell's shooting and passing abilities make him so easy to mesh with other guards IMO, but if you're getting Mudiay at 4 or 5, you're very excited.

I also don't think people realize how special of a passer Mudiay is.

Footage from the CBA playoff games showed he had trouble getting past Marbury and Sun Yue.
