Clippers a lot different since last Spurs series

"The first one we got our ass kicked," DeAndre Jordan said Thursday when asked about playing the Spurs in the playoffs for the second time in four years. "We got swept. That was my first time in the playoffs. It was fast. There was no experience whatsoever from my end or Blake [Griffin]'s."

"If we're not better prepared now than we were three years ago, we probably shouldn't even play," Paul said. "I would like to think we are, but there's only one way to find out, and that's to play."

"I feel like every round we have played in since [2012] we've learned a lot and a lot of it is mental toughness," Jordan said. "Not splintering as a team when things don't go right. And even when things do go right and we're up 10 we don't want to stop playing defense because that's not the way we play games here. We try to get stops and keep going. So we have to stick to the right path and doing what has got us here."

Arash Markazi, ESPN Los Angeles

Clippers owning and embracing matchup with defending champion Spurs

"We're excited," DeAndre Jordan said. "We accept the challenge. Teams really don't want to play the Spurs. No matter what first round second round conference finals you've got to go through those guys anyway. It'll be a big test for us, but we're ready."

I hope the clippers put them out, I truly hate the spurs and warriors. I wish they were on the same bracket. But if the clippers are truly a championship contender they need to show it right away in the first round.

i'm so pumped. its going to be huge if splitter is out too.

Clippers know Kawhi will be on CP3. THey better have something planned. Anything, just something.

Blake should average 30 this series.

Some lineup data just for examination

Image

Good to see how well the Clippers starters have scored against the Spurs in the 42 minutes they played. The three guard lineup with the starters has been pretty bad, awful on offense and worse on defense, so that will certainly need to improve in the post-season or not be used as much if it is an issue due to the lineup.

The third lineup isn't as relevant as I don't think we'll see much of that anyways.

That first Spurs lineup has played surprisingly awful vs the Clippers, won't see that lineup much or at all, but even if we did, wouldn't expect it to be that bad. Their starting lineup with Baynes has been pretty killed in their 13 minutes, maybe that lineup played a good amount of minutes against the 3 guard lineup, I can't remember the games specifically.

Clippers can score against the Spurs, but of course Spurs can score against the Clippers. Clippers will really need the offense to be clicking so they can outpace the Spurs. I'm assuming DJ will be matched up against Duncan and Blake against the other big man.

The team will definitely need Jamal to get back in the groove in this series, because every point is going to count, and he can't be shooting awful and average 2-3 less points than he should on the FGA that he's taking, that's serious.

I do wish Jordan Hamilton was more useful and that the team had really considered getting another big man that could man the C spot and would actually get minutes. I think with a bigger, most defensive capable and lengthy guy at C, you could get away with running a bench lineup of: Rivers/Crawford/Hamilton/Hedo/(Big man). Not that I have any issues with Davis either, but Hedo does struggle defensively at SF.

We better never run an all bench lineup. Ever. Even if we get up by 20, because everyone knows they'll just give the lead away in minutes.

It's time to see if Doc has common sense. He has run with some idiotic lineups and rotation decisions during the regular season. If we have the lead, no full bench lineups and no 3-guard lineups! The Spurs are clinical and we will need to focus on D for the entire 48 minutes, one game at a time.

Well I mean, there is a consolation prize for your apparent disdain!

After the first round, our teams can meet up on a couch somewhere, eat hot wings and watch the games together!

Is there something wrong with posting on a game thread supporting one of the teams playing? Sheesh, what a bully.

Our individual players are more talented than their individual players -- but their team is better than our team and their coach is better than our coach. We've already lost if we're going in trying to 'out-scheme' and 'out-team' the Spurs -- not gonna happen, Doc isn't about to out-coach Pop.

The only way we win this series is if our stars drag this team to the second-round with individual heroics -- ISO-ball isn't very trendy right now, but it's the only way we're winning this series.

Prime-Blake needs to send 40-year-old Duncan into retirement -- 20 & 8 is cute during the regular season, it's not gonna be enough to beat the Champs in a playoff series; I need Blake at 30 & 11.
CP3 needs to out-class Parker, and when Kawhi gets put on him Chris needs to give that kid a basketball lesson; remind him he's not a superstar...yet.
DJ has to hit about %55 of his free-throws, grab 15 boards a night, and alter anything that comes near the rim -- if there was ever a time to earn that max-contract, it's right now.
Crawford is our unpredictable wild-card who the other team can't stop with a scouting report -- for better or for worse -- he needs the GREEN-LIGHT; we're not winning anything with a 'timid' JCrossover. Somebody on the perimeter needs to be the aggressor, and it has to be him.

None of this involves coaching or complex schemes; I don't want Doc calling a single play when these guys are on the floor -- we need our stars to go get this s***-- if they can't get it done, then so be it, but don't hand-cuff our talent trying to 'out-think' the best team in basketball.

Roll the ball out there and let the best players in this series do what they do.
