Generally speaking, I'm referring to anyone who pencils in the high draft pick as a starter.

To me, that way too ambitious.

... and there are countless amounts of people who do this. The same ones who went ape-sh%t when Boozer was announced the starter over Randle to begin this past season.

Most "people" don't understand the importance of having several veterans on a squad to establish a proper "breeding ground" for the youngins".

Hell, I still think Randle needs to come off the bench. Most "people" would vehemently disagree with this assertion.

I prefer a defensive veteran over Boozer though -- Garnett or Chuck Hayes.

Acquiring Garnett or Chuck Hayes doesn't make any sense for this team.

Garnett would do wonders for Towns and Randle, and to a lesser extent, Hayes would as well.

It's foolish and idiotic to think as the Lakers rebuild, they only need a bunch of youngsters, that they don't need veteran role players.

It's a fallacy that only contenders need veteran role players.

The Lakers need to be good, and anything that can be done to insure that end, beyond signing guys to "bad" contracts, should be done.

Carlos Boozer is a good veteran and he is quite capable of showing this young guys how to be a professional, we also still have Kobe who is an exceptional veteran and can still bring something to the table as well, we also still have Price at the pg position who can still serve as a veteran than can produce a little bit to our young guys. Without explanation, you assert that two of the most vocal and defensive veteran leaders in the game would be "useless", yet you spew off, thus implying, names of other veterans as useful.

I'm not siding with you, I'm letting you know what's attainable and what's just pipe. Garnett is pipe, chuck Hayes would be useless on this team and he is even more undersized and less of a player that Boozer is. Boozer would be of much help to Randle's development than Hayes could dream of. We have Kobe and Price for the guards.

Garnett is next to impossible to attain, you're right. But your original reply said that he would be useless ("doesn't make any sense") for this team -- a very bad choice of words I suppose.

If you do in fact believe that Garnett would be useless for this team, however unattainable he may in fact be, I think that's absurd, and you are a basketball baby.

If you merely think that there is no way the Lakers could get him, then your point has merit.
