i agree.

To me, I'd throw 10m at Asik/Hibbert and whoever is the first to take it is good with me.

Deandre Jordan is just not worth the 15m.

The #1 pick seems to be Towns on a majority of draft boards, so I think it's kind of unlikely he'll fall to us.
So instead I'll be doing scenarios for picks 2-3, the prospects that are projected at their range happen to be my fav as well!

I'll be doing 1 'realistic' and 1 'unrealistic' scenario for each prospect.

Image

Assuming we draft Jahlil Okafor #2

C: Jahlil Okafor
PF: Taj Gibson
SF: Carmelo Anthony
SG: Danny Green
PG: Corey Joseph

GREAT blend of offense (interior and perimiter!) along with good overall defense.
We obviously trade away Calderon by packaging Timmy, Rocket's 2nd round picks we obtained this year, our trade exception for Taj.

Alternative scenario I have which is unrealistic

C: Jahlil Okafor
PF: Draymond Green
SF: Carmelo Anthony
SG: Danny Green
PG: Langston Galloway

This will be a versatile line-up, because of Draymond Greens ability to guard almost every position;
He will be interchangeable with Melo on both offense and defense, basically the perfect fit in between the Melo and Okafor 1-2 punch.

I think I'll slightly prefer the 'realistic' lineup for Okafor's case.

Image

Assuming we draft D'Angelo Russell #3

C: Robin Lopez
PF: Paul Milsap
SF: Carmelo Anthony
SG: D'Angelo Russell
PG: Langston Galloway

A good blend of offense, defense and passing.

Alternative scenario I have which is unrealistic

C: Marc Gasol
PF: Carmelo Anthony
SF: Danny Green or DeMarre Carroll
SG: D''Angelo Russell
PG: Langston Galloway

Defense, passing and scoring - just a perfect fit!
Due to having Marc in this lineup, it allows us to slot Melo into PF for both offense and defense.
Surrounded with deadly clutch shooters, Marc or Melo will have no problems passing out of the post/doubles.

Basically pick your poison and is my personal favourite lineup out of all the scenarios I posted!

These are all pretty good lineups, My choice would be:

C. Okafor/Amundson
PF. T.Gibson/Barg (lowball only)
SF. Melo/Early
Sg. D. Green/Shved/THJ
Pg. Galo/Calderon

That's a good mixture of defense, offense, and youth. There would be no need to break the piggy bankand would actually have enough to sign someone else.

What about a young C like Bismack in FA?

I'd sign Bismack, Monroe, Middleton and draft Russell

Attempt to dump Calderon and Timmy in a package for anything or nothing

Young core to build around and leaves us with money to spend in the future

C: Bismack
PF: Monroe
SF: Anthony / Early
SG: Middleton
PG -- Russell / Galloway

Certainly not the sexiest lineup, but it has potential for the future.

Any lineup with Russell in it is sexy AF.

I would love for us to look into Psycho T, who is unrestricted, on the cheap as a backup big. Team-first guy who will have no problem just playing his role, and bring the energy, toughness and intensity every time he steps on the court.

Chicago Bulls

PG: Kemba Walker / T.Rozier / B.Wannamaker
SG: Donte DiVincenzo / T.Ross / P.Connaughton
SF: Kawhi Leonard / R.O’Neale / Caleb Martin
PF: Draymond Green / B.Portis / A.Aminu
C: Jonas Valanciunas / M.Harrell / F.Kaminsky

Would Indy give us Solomon Hill to take Hibbert for cap space?

Hibbert's $15m is probably around what we'd need to spend for Asik, Lopez, etc.

We all get that with the cap going up, there's a high probability that second- and thid-tier players are getting overpaid this offseason.

I'm curious who is the one REALISTIC free agent you all would rather we overpay for this summer?

Kyle O'Quinn
Henry Sims
And of course on the higher tier would be Greg Monroe and Tobias Harris.
I would say KJ McDaniels but Thanasis projects as a similar fit here.

How exactly are you "starting to see the plan"?

Is it the internet rumors or the posters here guessing?

perhaps i should have phrased it differently. when i said 'see the plan as', i didn't mean to suggest that i am capable of 'seeing the plan' explicitly. i meant it as 'the plan is starting to look like'

I prefer Middleton, but since he's restricted maybe Danny Green wants to come back to NYC to get paid.

Bucks trade Henson/Mayo
for Knicks Hardaway/Carlos

Mayo has one year less on contract.

1. Brandon Knight. Has gotten better every year and should of been an All Star this year.
2. Any of the top 4 in Gasol LMA Dragic Millsap.

Otherwise spend and trade wisely. Danny Green and Koufus should fit no matter who we draft and probably could be had for a combines 16-18 mil. Jrue Holiday and Taj Gibson are high prices bench guys that their teams may see as redundant to a degree. Get those 4 plus our pick and it's hard not to see us trending up

Our floor spacers in that lineup are Galloway and Towns. Unless you want Melo to be Gallinari in the corner!

Aside question: Haven't heard much about Wes Matthews. Anyone willing to roll the dice on him?

Injuries like his worry me and injuries have been killing the Knicks sense Ewing left so no. I'm tired of putting money into damaged goods, he's a good player no dougbt and he was my first choice originally, but it has to stop. From Longly, Glen Rice, McDyess, Hardaway, Fransis, Curry (heart issuse), McGrady, Hughes, and STAT. Signing or trading for injured players has got to stop.

I think that is a good lineup Ellis can score to help Melo Monroe in the post. Towns can shoot and post up. Galloway is solid.

IF we want to dump Calderon then the move might be to trade him back to the Mavs in three way trade where the Mavs sign & trade Rondo a third team...

I can see the Mavs wanting him back.

After we fill up our cap space, we could S/T Calderon + THJ for Rondo at $12.6m. He would be a good fit if we could get a lights out shooter at the 2 like Green or Matthews.

We could do:

Rondo 12.6 / Galloway 0.845
Green 12 /
Melo 22.875 / Early 0.845
Carroll 9 / O'Quinn / 4.5 / Acy 1.181
Okafor 5 / Cole 2.7 room exception

+ 5 guys signed at .5

He wouldn't be a good fit even if we do get a lights out shooter. Rondo's skill set is the exact opposite of what the triangle needs (even if we are adding in more pick and rolls than usual). I like Rondo's competitiveness, his vision, and rebounding ability but he pounds the ball for HUGE stretches and can't shoot -- he basically single-handedly ruined the Mavs' offense because of the type of player he is.
