If San Antonio or Memphis gets eliminated early, will we have a chance at Leonard or Gasol?

Post#1 » by thegamefritz » Mon Apr 20, 2015 4:17 pm

Now that Clippers dominated San Antonio in game 1 and I am hoping Clippers win the series (although I know spurs will always find away). Let's say Spurs gets eliminated in rd1 will we have a shot at Kawhi Leonard? I know he wanted to stay with the spurs but if they get eliminated this year, there will be no more future for the spurs as Tim, Manu and Tony are getting old and Leonard will be stuck carrying the load and I guess Leonard will be better with another team. lAKERS got the money and if we get top 5 pick plus a healthy Randle then we sure got better future than the Spurs so do you think We got a chance with Kawhi Leonard?

Same with Marc Gasol, if Memphis will be eliminated in 2nd or 3rd rd (For sure they'll extend in the 2nd or 3rd rd), do you guys Think Marc Gasol can give us a shot?

If I may add LaMarcus Aldrige also? I'm hoping for C because we got Randle @PF already but Heck I'll take LaMarcus Aldridge if he is available.

i dont know about Kahwi, but if we keep our pick, and getting Hezonja/Stanley/Winslow, i hope Mitch would recruit Marc Gasol at any cost, then try add nice bench from left over capspace

Clarkson
Kobe
SF from draft
Randle
Marc

i dont know, maybe the starters are too inexperienced, but its a nice team and if we get experienced bench, we will go far in West.

LMA is will be really old when his contract expire (34 years old) if the Lakers sign him.. i want start fresh/younger by the time Kobe retires.

With the cap set to cross $100 million, you can forget getting any restricted free agent of worth. 10/10 times teams will match any offer you make. Gasol on the other hand is probable but he'll have plenty suitors with better rosters.

only heard NYK and SA in conversation of interest to Marc....NY is in same position as us with even less talent, SA has to do a lot of creative things to free enough cap space to even give Marc a respectable offer and they have to do it before Leonard gets offers.

They have $34 million in committed salaries next season to 5 players if you do not count Leonard. They also get 10 days to match anything Leonard gets. They don't necessarily have to manipulate anything if at all.

Leonard's cap hold should only be his QO number if I'm not wrong (Dock can correct me here), the remaining cap holds would amount to around $3 million, so they can sign him at the stroke of free agency without any issues.

The Spurs will get Aldridge, keep Leonard, and Gasol will re-sign with Memphis.

That's scary!!

How about Jimmy Butler? if Bulls gets eliminated early? I just want a veteran/tested at SF/SG and if we can get a Bigman at the draft!!!

Leonard's cap hold isn't his QO, I believe it's 150-250% of his salary. Not quite sure on the exact percentage though.

Just looked it up.

In Leonard's case it's 250% of the previous year's salary.

Don't mean to piss on the hopes of the OP, but I'm a straight shooter and I'm gonna tell you now we have no chance at either for these reasons...

Leonard, he's not going to bounce that freely because for one as we know he's restricted and the Spurs will match. Secondly just because they lose one series doesn't mean he's ready to leave.

Marc Gasol, I could go into a litany of reasons why he's not coming here even if Mitch went for it. But the one and main reason is his brother, some here are fooling themselves if they think Marc didn't see, hear or read first hand the supposed bad treatment of Pau. It's blood and he won't give us the time of day in free agency. Forget peeps it ain't happen'in.

Laker fans need to temper their expectations. Leonard isn't going anywhere, Pops has been preaching since day 1 that they drafted him for the purpose of making him their next franchise player. As for Marc, I think the whole Pau debacle will definitely influence his decision. He'll be out of Memphis for sure, unless they somehow manage to get to the finals.

I see Duncan and Manu retiring this year or at least one of them. Even if Leonard decided to sign an offer sheet with us, the Spurs would be stupid to not match it even if its the maximum amount. The only way I can see Leonard leaving if he somehow convinces the Spurs that he doesn't want to play with them anymore and they are nice enough to let him go.

You really think Aldridge will go there with no Duncan, no Ginobili and the unknown surrounding Pop's future?

I think we have a better shot at Aldridge to be honest. Yes, they have Parker and Leonard, but we have Kobe, Randle, Clarkson, cap space, better market/brand, etc.

I wouldn't say we're completely out of the picture. They would also have to renounce every free agent they have, and with cap holds, they probably wouldn't be able to offer a full max.

In other news, I don't think Hibbert's ever been more available. I agree that Gasol and LMA are probably extreme long shots.

Leonard is better than anything we have to offer, so yes he will go there and they'll open up enough room for another max player in 2016.

Parker
RJ Hunter (26th pick)
Leonard/Anderson
Aldridge/Diaw
Splitter

is not a bad line up at all considering how good Spurs are at finding role players to fill the remaining spots.
