It'd be nice if they can give Ralph a post-birthday victory.

Game 1 was a great start to the series, but all the Clippers have done so far is hold serve. I like the comment that Blake made in the postgame interview the other night. He said that the next game is the most important game of the season. The next game is game 2, but the point being made is that it's not about what you've done, but what must still be done.

Pop and the Spurs are going to make adjustments and it's all about how the Clippers respond to those adjustments. The Spurs were obviously not on their A-game in the opener, but there's areas that Clippers need to be better in as well.

The defensive intensity was very encouraging in game 1. I hope that the Clippers stay committed to that level of effort.

Can. Not. Wait. Hope we come out and play exactly like we did in quarters 1, 3, and 4. A 2-0 lead would be HUGE.

Pumped!

So mad I can't watch this, but this game will be massive. Game 1 was great, we MUST come out with the same pace and energy we did to begin Game 1.

Spurs will probably shoot better tonight. I thought our defense was decent but they did miss some open looks….and missed some open looks badly.

That said, I expect Redick to hit tonight.

Conventional wisdom says the Spurs aren't going to lose their 3rd game in a row; and lose their 4th in a row to the Clippers.

Conventional wisdom says Pop has figured us out after Game-1 and the Spurs are poised to take control of this series.

Based on conventional wisdom it would be easy to pick the Spurs to steal home-court tonight -- but I don't think this Clippers team gives a damn about conventional wisdom.

If these guys are as good as I think they are, they'll throw 'conventional wisdom' right out the window and run those guys off the floor again.

If we win game 2 it's basically us making a statement that we're not intimidated by the reigning champs. We've had disappointing ends to the past two years in the playoffs, but now we're healthy and are peaking at the right time, so there are no excuses. Either we're a "need one more piece" team, or we're actual contenders.

I'm pretty sure JJ will have a bounce back game. We have to hope that Crawford continues his good shooting and that the rest of our starters continue the way they've been playing. I can't wait. It would be great if we go up 2-0, but if we lose game 2, I'm not going to panic.

A Game 2 win is hardly a referendum on anything. Remember what happened the last time we faced Memphis in the playoffs?

What will prove that we're not intimidated by the champs is when the seconds tick down on a fourth victory against them in the series. Until then, we've proven nothing and made zero statements.

My boss doesn''t understand that I need two months of work to watch the playoffs... hopefully I don't find out the score until I watch it after work. Let's show them that we are contenders.

NP. I'm glad we didn't have him tonight.

If/When we end up with Marc Davis, Tony Brothers or Lauren Holtkamp, I hope it's in a non-deciding road game.

Key Concerns for the Postseason

Post#19 » by Ranma » Thu Apr 23, 2015 1:42 am

My concerns for this series applies to the whole playoffs.

  • Physicality with Blake Griffn: We saw an inspiring performance from BG in Game 1 because he was able to cut loose and attack the rim without having to deal with a tall, physical defender like Tiago Splitter or worry about hard fouls or cheapshots. What happens when he gets the Bogut/Z-Bo treatment or if Splitter returns or Kawhi Leonard guards him and ups the physicality? Michael Jordan had to deal with the Jordan Rules by the Bad Boys of Detroit and was only able to overcome that by mentally preparing for it and relying on his capable teammates to step up in support. Blake should take heed from Air Jordan's experience.

  • J.J. Redick Stepping Up: Redick is a key player in the Clippers' postseason hopes. His ball movement and presence as a perimeter threat opens up the floor for CP3, BG, and DJ to do their respective thing. Stamina and being neutralized by dogged defenders have been issues with him previously and remain so this postseason. He's been able to free himself to get good looks, so he has to make those because eluding defenders gets tougher in the playoffs.

  • Shortening Series Matchups: Given our shortcomings in the bench, it is important that we win as many games as soon as possible to afford the team more rest as other teams deal with extended sets of series and to limit our vulnerability to having to play our reserves. Doc is hoping for a bench player to show himself to be an unexpected playoff hero like those from previous postseasons (Robert Horry, Jason Terry, etc.) but I have doubts about our pool of reserves. Hawes looks like a hot mess mentally, Crawford is a defensive Achilles heel with streaky offensive contributions, Junior Rivers is green and undeveloped while Doc is unlikely to give Hamilton (prior to concussion) or Train a sniff of playoff minutes. At least Big Baby is a seasoned and energetic contributor albeit one prone to "emotional hijacks". Playing less games also reduces the team's exposure to whatever biased officiating may show up in the form of referees with a grudge.

As far as the "physicality" thing goes, it's overblown, and the Spurs aren't that kind of team anyway. Bowen's not there anymore.
