Not a matter of what I like, its simply unrealistic, which is what I said.

You have every right to indulge in fantasies. Just expect some reality checks if you do it in a public forum.

Well then here's one for you.
SPORTS FORUMS ARE JUST PEOPLE INDULGING IN FANTASIES.
Are you not entertained?

I don't know, I find the reality of sports pretty darned entertaining.

But your response leads to the classic question, if you acknowledge you're indulging in a fantasy, why limit yourself to Danny Green and Tobias Harris. Why not go whole hog and fantasize about better players all coming on a discount?

There's that mod in you. You're going places.
Let's see, I think I'm going to think what ever it is I want and decide myself what's realistic and what's not thanks.
Not saying you can't hate on it go right ahead, you wouldn't be the first, last or only.
But like you said, if you type don't be surprised if you're called out on it. Like being a hater.

I'm not sure you're even talking about anymore. You posted something in a public forum, I'm assuming with the intention of getting feedback. I've written nothing personal or defamatory. Merely saying fiscally the scenario is highly unlikely.

Is that how you define being a "hater" - anybody that doesn't agree with you?

Like I say, not even sure what your point is at this stage. I don't think the Knicks realistically are going to get three really good free agents. I think they can and should consider themselves fortunate to get two.

Didn't think that'd be as controversial as you're trying to make it.

That's why I haven't "put forward" any names with dollar amounts attached.

Why do you assume I have?

I think the writing is on the wall with Tobias Harris.
He was benched midseason after his hot start.
He wants to be in New York.
I dont think Orlando will match a significant offer.
Whether a 4/45 million offer is signicant enough we about to find out.

We know Orlando has an interest in ACY.
Is it entirely impossible for them not to have an interest in Calderon? I do think he would be a perfect fit there (veteran prescense who can shoot and play behind Oladipo and Payton (or maybe thats Ben Gordon)

Sign Danny Green and DeMarre Carroll (hopefully combined for around 16-18 a year is realistic?) to play the wings and move Melo to the 4.

Draft Towns- sign a stopgap PG (With this lineup a penetrator like Lin actually makes some sense or worst case keep Calderon).
or
Draft Mudiay/Russell- sign stop gap defensive center (An Asik or R. Lopez would obviously be nice and be more than a stopgap but not sure if we'd have the resources for is unless we somehow dumped Calderon)

It surrounds Melo with at least 2 really good 3 point shooters and excellent defenders so the offense can look like it did 2 seasons ago.

Just because you can hit a shot doesnt mean you are a power foward.

Towns can pass the ball, defend PF's and rebound extremely. He's as much of a PF as Tim Duncan was. Towns is dynamic and if you're unaware of it then thats on you. Towns can play C/PF. He fits in many lineups with the lottery teams.

He can play with Pekovic at Minnesota.
He can play with Cousins at Sacramento.
He can play with Vucevic at Orlando.

so if any of those teams win the #1 or #2 pick, you best believe Towns will see minutes at PF.

Towns cant defend power forwards and he is no where near Tim Duncan. Towns is not dynamic in the least bit, he is below avg athletically for the center position.

What you talking about Willis? You mean Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes.

There is a reason this kid is #1 prospect in the country - he can handle most power forwards easily because he has a great understanding of how to use his length and he moves his feet just fine.

The Heat is in a weird place. They basically have to offer Dragic a lot of money and I would imagine they will. At which point, it would require Dragic to really want NY. Miami was on Dragic's list of preferred places/teams (along with the Knicks) so that will hurt the Knicks chances. The other Dragic? I would imagine the same reason that he was traded with his brother is the same reason that he's not likely to be traded by the Heat if Goran resigns. Well not unless the Knicks overpay to trade for the lesser Dragic.

So...not likely on either would be my guess.

Anyone think we can pry Cousins off of Sac?

It would likely require the Knicks to minimally end up with the 1st or 2nd overall pick to do so. And probably would still need Cousins raise a stink and help force the Kings to trade him. Likely will cost the 1st overall AND Cousins to punch George Karl in the balls AND Cousins to say that he'd be a pest unless traded to NY if the Knicks also want the Kings to take Calderon.

So that's also probably unlikely.

As folks have said, realistic (FA signings) would be guys like Paul Milsap (would likely have to overpay a bit), Danny Green (since the Spurs are going to have to max out Kawhi Leonard), Tobias Harris (he really, really, REALLY and GENUINELY wants to play for the Knicks and you may actually be able to get him to sign for a little less than what he could get elsewhere), Kris Middleton (would probably have to scare the Bucks away with a larger than desired contract), Greg Monroe (the Pistons don't want him so it's a even playing field and his offensive skills are Triangle enabled), Reggie Jackson, etc.

Realistic trades if the Knicks were to look to trade their pick? That's a whole other discussion that probably 99.44% of this board doesn't want to go to cause they don't want Jackson to trade the pick. It would be worth a discussion IMO, but you'll just get a lot of static.

cousins doesnt need to punch george karl. G.Karl doesnt want D.Cousins anyway. he said boogie is tradeable. boogie is unsettled in Sacremento anyway. also his reputation isnt good so there wont be much teams to give valueable assets for him.
maybe 3 way trade to get g.karl fast paced players would do it.

kings receive: ty lawson-wilson chandler(g.karl wants this kind players to play high tempo)
nuggets receive: knicks top 3 pick+thjr+calderon+2nd round pick. (nuggets are tanking anyway. calderon+thjr would entertain people)
knicks receive: d.cousins (top3 center in the league without losing cap space.)

One way trip to a bottom 5 defense and a barely 15th offense. Congrats you created a 37 win team that won't improve in the future.

Congrats to Kawhi winning DPOY but we all know who the consensus winner was:
Image

We need to offer Dray the max. If the Warriors match that we go with it but with the leader in 1st place DPOY votes in the free agency we need to try it all to get him.

We still have a shot at a Lang-Green-Anthony-Green-Okafor lineup or a Russell-Lang-Anthony-Green-Hibbert lineup.

Return to New York Knicks
