Is Kyle Lowry the problem?

Post#1 » by Oakvillehoops » Tue Apr 28, 2015 2:44 am

Rumors insist Lowry has never been fond of coach Casey. Not surprising considering Lowry has been deemed
UN-coachable many times in his career. If you consider when this breakdown started (End of December) this was right after Lowry
put the team on his back for 2 weeks. Clearly Lowry got cocky and tried to take the team away from Casey. When the coach loses control of one player because this player thinks he's above the coach, it's almost inevitable you lose control of the entire team.

I'm not gonna defend Casey, he deserves to be gone based on rotational and play calling mistakes, but you can't entirely blame him because he's not the first coach who couldn't control Lowry. He even tried to mend the relationship by inviting Lowry to coaching meetings.

Lowry is quite possibly this teams cancer. If you bring in a soft coach like Casey or others who let the players have this much control, players like Lowry walk right over them and take over destroying the other players respect for their coach. (even if it's a bad coach)

And on the other hand, if you bring in a coach who takes control as the alpha dog, Lowry stops playing and fills the room with negativity like he did in Houston. Lowry is that guy who NEEDS 100% control over everything or he's not happy and disappears. Another example of this is when Rudy Gay temporarily joined the team and was given team leader status, lowry completely disappeared until he was traded and could take over the team again. If we aren't getting the October/November Lowry back ever again, there's no way we should keep a troublemaker like him.

The problem is 20 years of terrible basketball decisions. And counting.

from a basketball stand point yes… his **** was the main problem… our success directly coincides with his overall play… from a locker room standpoint, that's to be decided. honestly, if lowry still played at his all-star level for the playoffs, this wouldn't have been an issue. but yeah, he's definitely the problem… i don't necessarily mean i want to get rid of him though, because if he can regain his all-star form, everything is water under the bridge.

I'm strictly talking about from a team chemistry and coaching point of view, clearly there are many more problems, but I'm saying a player like Lowry can create a disastrous locker room situation.

Not gonna lie the fame, all-star game, endorsements got into his head. He forgot what made him a good player and also burned out near the end of the season conditioning wise. I can definitely see him clashing with Casey, so management needs to decide who to keep between the two. Seems Lowry is still on the books and probably untradeable at this point so a new coach may be the solution.
Looking for a new signature. Currently, still evaluating.

THIS

-Tracy McGrady leaves
-VC for bag of chips
-O'Neil (coach)
-Araujo instead of Igoudala
-BC as GM
-Bargniani over Aldridge
-Cassey

To name most obvious ones.

Both should go but if your team star is causing chemistry issues right after he got his big payday then we got a huge problem. The team dropoff coincides with Lowrys dropoff. Lowry has got to go.

The problem with Kyle is he was the difference between winning & losing. Last season & start of this season
he could shoot us back in games when the rest struggled & could take charges on defense to change the flow

Without him at his best we are trash. He's not the problem & we relied on him too much

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "from a basketball stand point yes...his **** was the main problem"

Yup been feeling the same way since the summer. When he signed he was under the impression this is his team and hes the main guy, several quotes indicate this. Hes way too cocky and selfish at times like a bully and the rest of the team is to soft so he gets away with it. Also Masai asking for his advice on player acquisitions and thoughts on possible trades just made his ego even larger, heès the one who didn't want VC remember, the same VC that would have provided leadership this series, sounds like he doesn't want anyone taking his spotlight. Doesn't surprise me to hear hes had problems with Casey.
