Towns/Okafor, Lamarcus and Rondo would be a pretty upgraded summer on paper..
Hopefully far away from the Knicks.
Besides, I think hes just going to end up in LA

I've wanted Henson on the knicks since the first time I saw him. I knew he was better than Sanders. We could of had him for THJ---but no way they trade him now.
...and even if they would, those two aren't worth a top pick...but Middleton can already be the second best player on a ECF team...and may grow into even more than that.

Re: FREE AGENT/Trade/Transaction Idea thread (14'-15')
http://nypost.com/2015/04/28/knicks-may ... last-year/
Nobody was more surprised than Hawks veteran power forward Elton Brand when he received the midnight email last July 1 from Knicks president Phil Jackson. Free agency had begun, and Jackson wanted to express his immediate interest and talk to the Westchester native.
“It was at the deadline, at 12:01 a.m., then we spoke that morning,’’ Brand told The Post before the Hawks fell to the Nets at Barclays Center on Monday in Game 4. “It was surprising just because of his stature. It wasn’t surprising of what he was trying to do to rebuild that team and putting in that work. But it was surprising because he is who he is. It was like being in L.A. with the Clippers and all the championships he won when I was there.”
However, later on July 1, tragedy struck. Brand’s mother, Daisy, passed away at age 64 after a battle with stomach cancer. His free-agent focus was put off for a while. The 36-year-old, two-time All Star was very close to his mother, who was a stalwart in the Peekskill community in helping the city’s youth.
A Knicks offer for the veterans’ minimum of $1.4 million was on the table for Brand all summer, but he chose on Sept. 10 to re-sign with Atlanta for a one-year, $2 million deal. Brand said it wasn’t about the money.
“It definitely went down to the wire — the pros and cons,’’ Brand said. “Growing up in Westchester a big fan. It came down to the team. The team at this stage of my career, I knew what we had here, and we had a chance to go a little further. That’s what it came down to at the time.’’
Brand was platooned as a backup power forward during the Hawks’ sensational season but has appeared in just one of the four games, in this series. The coaching staff wants him mostly to be a mentor to the younger players and provide leadership. In fact, that’s also why Jackson was so interested, intrigued by more than his low-post skills for the triangle.
The Knicks have 10 roster spots to fill, and Brand said he hopes to hear from Jackson again. According to a friend of his mother’s, Daisy always hoped Brand would finish his career with the Knicks.
Brand said he also may consider hanging it up after 16 seasons.
“I got to make a decision if I’m going to play and come back,’’ Brand said. “[The Knicks] are definitely on the radar for sure. Yeah, I’m thinking about it. Moving on to something else, but I still also love to play and still feel good. I’m going to look at both options.”
The Hawks have two other free agents on the Knicks radar in All-Star Paul Millsap, who would combine well with Carmelo Anthony, and defensive wiz, DeMarre Carroll, who comes much cheaper. Carroll told The Post this month the Knicks and Lakers are two teams many players want to play for.
Last week, Carroll received one vote for Defensive Player of the Year.
“Somebody thinks of me for that honor is pretty good,’’ Carroll said. “It shows my work is finally getting noticed. I want to keep competing at a high level, keep showing I’m an elite defender and hopefully I can make one of those defensive teams.’’
J.R. Smith's last-second whiff left the Knicks with a sixth straight loss. But J.R. would do it again. "I think we went with the best shot," he said.

Tough to turn away aa vet with such a great pedigree of weapons, but I'd like to see what shape brand is in, and if he can play more than 65 games. Plus, vet min only

We will get no free agent of value
No team is going to let any RFA walk even for max prices
UFAs will be offered much higher than usual prices from original teams
all of these contracts are at a 71% dsicount at a minimum. It makes no sens eto let anyone go unless its low tier. You can simply sign/match and later trade if you dont want the player.

Probably a very dumb question here but.....
Say the Knicks have $26M in CAP going into FA.
Could we in theory off 3 different players 1-year opt out deals say for $10M, $9M and $7M -- with the promise of making up lost $ in initial contracts as CAP expands next year?

we can sign players for 1 year deals, but we won't have their Bird Rights so would have to stay under the cap to resign them.
Some one year deals could still work out with the cap jumping up, but doubtful it will come at much of a discount.

I don't believe you're allowed to promise or guarantee any future salary because it would be against cap regulations.

Re: FREE AGENT/Trade/Transaction Idea thread (14'-15')
where the f*ck is Andrew Bynum?
How can a man so big and so obnoxious stay off the grid? especially in europe?
does anyone have any info?
Last I heard was a very strange blurb about Doc Rivers not wanting him.but there was no follow up.

hes done.
His knees were a timebomb, and they eventually popped. Big men are always susceptible to knee and foot problems, and Bynum was no exception.
Its kind of his own doing though because if you remember in LA he constantly battled weight problems, especially when he got hurt he would just blow up in weight because he was idle all the time. He shouldve listened to those people and lost a ton of weight to prolong his career. But he probably felt that in order to be a 20/10 guy he needed that extra strength.. so there were tradeoffs. Couldnt or didn't want to adjust to being a part time player i suppose.

I'm not asking for opinions. everyone knows what you posted. Chances are that he's done. but he took a year off after some specialized treatment and I know he atleast has started training. I need an update on that. legitimate updates on how he looks currently from people who've seen him workout or heard something about those workouts.
somebody has got to know something.

Come on, the guys is a cancer on and off the court and has only shown a "me first" attitude.
This is no damn secret, why on earth would we even take a flyer on him? He's no long term solution.

I hate when posters like you hijack a thread. I actually don't disagree with anything you posted. But everything you posted is meaningless and irrelevant to my question.
Ok--Bynum is probably done and he is a cancer. thanks.
but have you forgotten that Phil is our President and is on record as having interest in Bynum after his year off?
Well that year is past.
An update is what I'm looking for--not posts about things everyone knows.

No real news on Bynum. I would imagine that Phil Jackson has some tab on him. If Jackson feels Bynum can do anything I'm sure we'll know at some point. Same with Larry Sanders. Sanders through his own admission appears to have been suffering from several significant mood disorders that really was messing with his mental state. If either guy ever decides to get everything in order, sure it may be worth a look. No reason not to.

Last I remember hearing about Bynum is he wanted to take a year off to healthy but who knows at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if we starting hearing Bynum's name in general once free agency start

Yeah - Bynum is probably working out with Sanders and Lamar Odom.
