Wondering why nobody is talking about this as an option. We can't pay him what the Cavs can, but it sure seems like it might be worth trying to pry him away. He would fit nicely next to Dre and could be the lead dog here. And he is only 26.
RJ/Jennings
KCP/Meeks
(Stanley or Hezonja)/Butler
Love/Tolliver
Dre/Anthony
That could go pretty far in the East. Better than heading out West to the Lakers and being THE MAN instead of a piece might be interesting to him.
Just surprised nobody is talking about it.

Re: Can we get some Love?
There's about a .01% chance of Detroit getting Love.
He wants a major market or a contender. Detroit are either now.

if he opts out i'd at least want svg to setup a meeting with him and present some kind of plan that'll attract him to detroit

I think you answered your own question. We can't pay him what Cleveland can, and we're not a destination city or contender (yet).
It's an intriguing idea, but I don't see us being in a position to see it become a reality.

I do not think that love will be worth what he gets on the open market.

Re: Can we get some Love?
Hypothetically, he'd fit alright... and I'm sure SVG would run pick&pop with him and Jackson plus post ups and even mid-range sets. He would get paired with Drummond which is a solid fit on defense for the future, assuming he develops into a better help defender. The problem is that other teams can offer him a better place to live, (potentially) immediate success, and the same amount of money. Sure, Van Gundy might set up a meeting and explain to him how good the team could be, but Love would probably look at it like another Minnesota situation.

I like the conspiracy theory that Love went to Cleveland for a year so the Wolves could get Wiggins, and then he'll return back to Minnesota next year

Re: Can we get some Love?
If Love opts out, SVG must do his "due diligence" and make him the best damn sales pitch he can. As they say, "no" is the answer to every question you never ask.
That said, how is Love's injury going to effect his potential free agency? I imagine he'll get max offers whenever he's available no matter what, but if he's really going to miss the start of next season maybe he's better off opting in, playing one more year in CLE, proving he's fully recovered, and then hitting the open market right in time to take advantage of the massive salary cap spike.

If he's really all about winning there are better options. Remaining in Cleveland being one of them.

Can we get him? No, probably not. He would be an incredible fit with Dre, but he's going to have teams lined up to give him max offers.

Re: Can we get some Love?
In a basketball sense Love makes sense. He can stretch the floor and have Dre protecting the rim. We have a PG and SG on the rise and a draft pick coming.
Like others have said, he loves LA or wants to win. We have to trade for or draft our stars because Detroit....
