He's a rookie.

Lol. That is a valid question. What do you expect of him on defensive end?

I didn't mean it like "HE'S A ROOKIE FFS". I meant, he's going to be a sieve, regardless, he's a rookie.

Long term, he's a bit of SF/PF tweener, with that Marcus Fizer size to him (at least that's what I saw). So one on one I think he'll always be a bit slow for the SG style SFs, and a bit small for the hulking PFs of the league. But he's quick enough that the right style of defensive scheme might work for him since he'll also be able to cover both.

I'm not a "make him SF" kind of guy, I think he'll need to be both, depending on who's on the floor with him. It depends on how ready his jump shot is. I didn't really see much of that in the preseason. Just drives mostly.

All players in the Nba are measured with their shoes on not without.

I'd be ecstatic to get 15/8 from Randle next season.
I'd be happy to get 12/7.
I'd be content with 11/6

Anything less and I'll be disappointed.

More than anything I just want to see a steady level of improvement from month to month. I don't expect him to bust the door down like Clarkson did.

15 pts 7 reb for Randle.

Can't wait to see how Randle/Clarkson goes < need to lock these guys up for 3-5 year deals.

Meanwhile watching bulls beat Cavs is a great feeling

In 26-30 min which is in all likelihood going to be his PT, I could see Randle put up 12/7. It'd of course depend on what role Byron has for him after we have all of our pieces come training camp, but those numbers would suffice as a rookie.

This.

The worse the team is, possibly the higher Randle's stats are. So I think in that sense his final line is not the thing, it's more about how is he contributing or hurting the team with his minutes on the floor, does he look comfortable, what kind of offensive game can he establish, who can he guard on D, etc. I mean those are all reflected in the stats, but stats can also be misleading.

If hypothetically the Lakers went .500 next year with Randle doing 12/7, that would be fantastic. OTOH if they went 12-70 and Randle got 15/8, there's probably some bad habits learned, to go along with that (probably less efficient) production.
