I would have preferred Phillips since he's more consistent but I always thought Goldman has had the most potential out of any of the NTs. He never meet his full potential coming out of HS according to stuff I read while at Florida st. Hopefully fangio and fox can bring it out of him. Now if one of Jalen Collins or Gregory fall to the 3rd.

Solid draft so far. Pace doesn't mess around. He really goes for BPA and that's how the draft should be done.

if we can get Gregory in the 3rd and Oregon's CB in the 4th, that'd be great

No TE taken so far. Maybe if we trade Bennett for a late 2nd or 3rd we can add another starting caliber guy and replace him with a good TE that drops. Hopefully Ohio st. TE

Hopefully these guys pan out. That Oregon C sure does sound like a lock to be at least good.

Just read the other day that some people are predicting that Goldman will start at NT in week 1. I'm not sure if that says more about how good Goldman is, or how underwhelming Sutton and Ferguson have been?

Sutton and Ferguson were put at DE drop day 1. Ratliff was going to start at NT when McDonald was her but he'll probably slide to that spot now.

Ratliff
Goldman
Ferguson/Jenkins/Sutton (not sure who will win the third spot)

I'm hoping Terry Willimas makes the squad at backup NT

I was just reading an article that had the defense looking like this:

LE - Ratliff - Backups Ferguson
NT - Goldman - Backups Ratliff, Ferguson, Sutton (pretty much anyone on the line)
RE - Jenkins - Backups Sutton

LOLB - McPhee - Backups Allen and Acho
ILB - Jones and Foster - Backups McClellin and Bostic
ROLB - Houston - Backups Young and Bass

Does that sound likely to you guys? What changes (if any) would you make?

In all likelihood Ratliff will take more snaps than anyone else on the DL. If Jenkins is better than Ferguson, which I doubt, than its a marginal difference.

With that being said, I don't see Ferguson being stuck behind Ratliff and Sitting being the primary backup to Jenkins because that would mean Ferguson gets the fewest snaps.

If Ferguson doesn't win the job next to Ratliff and Goldman, then I think he will be the primary backup at all 3 DL positions.

I'd also be surprised if Washington doesn't make the roster. Keeping him would give us 17 front 7 players.

We should do some research and find out how many front 7 players the broncos and especially the 49ers kept over the past few years.

So either...

Ratliff - Goldman - Ferguson

or

Ratliff - Goldman - Jenkins... with Ferguson backing up all 3 spots?

I think so. And if Ferguson is the backup then he would be the first to rotate in at every position. Obviously other guys would get snaps as well.

I think Terry Williams is a dark horse to take the backup NT role. That would allow some flexibility with Goldman being able to jump to DE at times.

I would be disappointed if Jenkins at DE and Ratliff at NT was better than Ratliff at DE and Goldman at NT.

I'm hoping that if we needed a true NT and drafted a guy at the top of round 2 - that he should at least be able to start year one and be a 2 down player.

At 6'4" 336 lbs, if Goldman can't start right away...
