Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola have not spoken since the former Barcelona manager left the club in 2012.
Guardiola returns to Camp Nou as manager of Bayern Munich this week.
"It’s only normal that there will be some sort of homage paid to Guardiola for everything that he was at this club and for everything that he won here but once the game starts all that ends," said Messi.
Guardiola scouted a match earlier this year at Barcelona when they played Manchester City.
