Parker and Diaw to play for France in Eurobasket 2015

His subpar, injury-plagued season be damned, Tony Parker joins Boris Diaw and former Spur Nando De Colo among 24 players named to France’s preliminary roster for EuroBasket 2015.

France is the defending champion, with Parker having earned MVP honors in leading Les Bleus to their first major title at the 2013 competition. He, Diaw and fellow NBA standouts Nicolas Batum and Rudy Gobert have all pledged their intent to participate with France among four host nations.

Can't say that i'm too thrilled about Parker playing. More basketball isn't going to help his body.

Thoughts?

Can't stop him, if he comes back even more beat up he can only blame himself and i hope pop uses it as a reason to start patty/cojo at the start of the season honestly.

Dont get me wrong, i don't wish him injury at all, but it's obvious he's not even close to 100% so it's on him now.

Remember Eurobasket is taking place in France, and it might be Parker's last run with France if they fail to qualify for the 2016 Olympics (which is no easy task in Europe). Surely this has to be a factor.

That being said, Parker looked old and injured during the playoffs and I'm afraid of the impact this can have on France if he hasn't fully recovered. Obviously you'd have to worry about the toll it takes on Parker's body as well.

Pipe dream, but I really hope his role would be changed to that of a super 6th man that gets brought in the game for scoring punch. France does have another competent PG in Thomas Heurtel, who filled in for Parker and played big in the last World Cup, helping lead France to the bronze. If you don't know him, look him up, he's very solid. Also France has a nice system which is centered around defense, which is not Parker's strong point.

Diaw playing for France is as unsurprising as it gets. Ever since he was good enough to be selected, he has been 100% committed to the national team.

I'm all for it. Yeah the NBA is your job and you have a responsibility to turn up to work fully fit, but the National Team would always come first in my book if I was a player.

And to the above comment on Mills starting (or CoJo). That would be a great option if we wanted to tank for the next Duncan ;)

Mills isn't a starter on any NBA team. Great energy and scoring off the bench but doesn't have the distribution skills, ballhandling, penetration etc to be a starting PG.

As for Joseph, he is gone. He'll get a nice offer elsewhere and never look back. Pop played him a total of about 20 minutes in the Clippers series while Parker was struggling. If that was me, I'd say thanks for a great foundation to my career, but I am going where I can play some minutes.

Parker said that 2016 (Olympics) will be his last year of international play. I'm fine with him playing in the Olympics and i'm sure France would welcome him back if they make it without him.

I really hope we match any offer that CoJo gets. I'd like to see us ditch Marco this summer and use more two PG sets and push the tempo a bit more at times.

Absolutely. For some reason, I was never a big fan of Parker but there is no denying his role as a huge promoter of basketball in France. It doesn't hurt that France had the best results in their history with him as their leader either. Him ending his international in the Olympics would be a well deserved ending

Parker and Diaw to play for France in Eurobasket 2015

I would love for Parker to rest up and come back healthy.
But I'd never want to stop a player from representing his country. It's the highest honour that can be bestowed on a sportsman

So the way the Parker works it means he will come back healthy, since him not playing meant he did not come back healthy this year.
