I still have no idea why we'd draft such a major project, and then bring them over in their first year. It makes no sense. I also don't believe in that "he needs to learn English and the NBA game" argument. You can learn English in any part of the world and he needs to learn how to play basketball period.

Probably the year before his first major extension, and then we pay him a max deal because of his huge amount of potential.

So how in hell would it be comparable with to the sword of Cabocles?

What's funny is that I had lunch with Terrence Ross' agent yesterday. We talked about every possible scenario. Toronto never came up.

Re: Bruno Caboclo's wingspan
He May never play meaningful minutes for us, but he can get us something from the top shelf and bottom cupboard at the same time. And there aren't a lot of guys that can do that.
Also, no matter where he is, he's at most only two arms away from being two arms away.
Bruno, the 20th pick of the Toronto Raptors. Jay Bilas of ESPN says, "incredible reach".

Re: Bruno Caboclo's wingspan
he needs to play at least 10 minutes a game next year.
If we need to focus on getting better defensively...there needs to be more minutes for JJ, Bruno and Bebe(develop our promising defensive prospects) which means Lou is probably gone and hopefully we can move vasquez for a more defensive minded backup PG.
Ross is also very expendable, he has no future for this team. He is a 3+D player with terrible defensive instincts and a wildly inconsistent 3 point shot....rather have James Johnson take those minutes

If we get a D-league team that's where he'll be playing. And I don't want to think about what happens if he has to spend another year lie this one because we don't have a team.

Re: Bruno Caboclo's wingspan
Reach can only compensate so far for a lack of defensive speed/quickness when guarding the perimeter. Excess reach isn't going to give a PF-quick defender the ability to guard wings, necessarily. And right now, Bruno looks like he has lanky PF-level perimeter defensive quickness, comparable to that of a younger Chris Bosh. Quick compared to most other PF's, but not wing-level quick.

I think Bruno will end up at the 4 eventually, long-term.

That is what I am seeing too. A quick, athletic PF that can hit the outside shot or beat you off the dribble on an iso.
I think Bruno has better handles than Bosh & probably has a higher standing reach too.
Still needs to add strength/ weight to properly play the 4 though.

I'd be fine with them training him as a PF starting this offseason. May as well be ahead of the game. Could you imagine the quickness advantage he would have at the 4? He'd be able to guard some 3's, 4's & some 5's when needed.

Re: Bruno Caboclo's wingspan
So he's gonna go from a long 3 to an undersized 4? Where did Bruno get these handles. I moving with the ball as one of his issues. He's dribbled it off his legs a few times in his limited minutes.

Since when is a guy that is 6'9" with one of the longest wingspans in the league an undersized 4? Sure, he needs to add weight....
He'd have great handles for a PF. Just gotta get him to try to settle down with the handles.......you don't need to try to cross over every time.

Though it remains to be seen whether Bruno has, or can develop, the PF mindset inside the paint - in terms of contesting shots, finishing, bodying people, rebounding, etc. I think he's always played out on the wing. And as we learned all too well with Bargnani, not only do you need the size and strength, you also need the right instincts, experience, and demeanor to play inside. So even with added weight and strength with Bruno, I'm still a bit skeptical.
Prototypical length/mass and weight room strength don't necessarily translate to on-court physicality/inside presence, if the entirety of your basketball play has been defined by finesse and wing play.

In the NBA 6'9 is not big for a PF, and those that are 6'9 or shorter tend to have bulk. He's got those long arns, but I just can't see him banging in the post or rebounding. I'm sure he could be plugged in as a stretch 4, or play 4 in small ball down the road. I'm just more worried at him being able to play at all.

I didn't say 6'9 is big. It's not small though. Probably pretty average. Bruno is basically the same height as Amir, but most likely with a longer standing reach.
It would be a long road for him to switch to playing the 4, but if he doesn't have the foot speed to play the 3 it would be better late than never.
Bosh never really had the game of a true PF, but he did alright.

Re: Bruno Caboclo's wingspan
Bruno has basically Blake Griffin height, but with Anthony Davis wingspan (even an inch or two beyond). So the length is not an issue.

Physically he's just great for the NBA. That's unquestionable. It's everything else that's the problem.

Meh. It'll be a long road regardless. They should get him focused where they want him now, let him burn a year in the D league doing it.

Re: Bruno Caboclo's wingspan
I say they play him big time minutes in SL at the 3 & have him focus specifically on defense/ staying in front of his man. If he can't stay in front of D-League SF's, then we have a problem.
If it's just not looking promising, start him at the PF position in the D-League.
