It bugs me that Gortat fouled out on some questionable **** given the way the refs are officiating Horford.

Is Sessions an improvement over Miller? Yes, he's quicker. Is he worth a Top-10 pick? At the end of the day Sessions is what we ended-up with as a result of drafting Jan Vesely.

Now ask if we'd rather have Sessions or Clarkson?

That wasn't the question, closg00. We all get the Sessions-Vesely linkage and the stupidity of having WIll Bynum on the roster instead of Clarkson.

But lots of people wrote off Sessions immediately, said he was done, the trade was epic fail, etc. I was okay with it but amivalent at best about his contract guarantee next season.

The people who panned this trade were wrong. He's a better fit than Miller was and he's a fine backup.

No way Miller gives them that inside/outside game or slows anyone on defense. The trade looked pretty uninspired at the time, but Sessions gave the team a fighting chance in that game, and has looked pretty good overall.

Agreed.

I'm proud to say I was one of the ones who was modestly in favor of the trade.

You guys have the most poorly run offense in the NBA. It honestly is dribble, dribble, hand off, high screen, maybe a roll or a pull out. Please tell your coach to draw up some plays, and beat this lineup of scrubs... Is John out for the playoffs?

The Wizards have the 3rd best offense in the playoffs and the highest eFG%.

Yeah but how much of that is coaching/scheme and how much of it is individual greatness from Wall, Beal, and Pierce?

Frustrating game to lose though. I hate to blame the officiating(never my style)but the foul discrepancy was huge. Our guys get hip checked Hockey style and its no call, but we barely bump them and its 2 shots.

Of course, its tough to win when one of your starters goes 0-for from the field. Nene has got to step it up. If not, then Wittman needs to bring in Humphries or hell even Blair. We can't win basically playing 4 on 5 when Nene is on the floor.

Need Wall healthy though. Without him we are done, no shot at winning the series.

I was one of those (mostly from watching the Kings games) - I wanted to keep Miller for the expiring contract. But I didn't like the Blair or Webster contracts either. For close to $10M I thought we could have got a meaningful player next year.

And to the question of Clarkson - THIS.

My guess is that Sessions was hurt earlier in the year and has since recovered. His numbers with us have been way better than they were in Sactown.

Please. Wall is good but still not among the top 5 in PG offense. Beal and Pierce are about average on offense. You can't possibly complain about the coaching and offensive scheme so far this playoffs. The Wizards are not underperforming their talent base. They underperformed during the regular season, but not in the playoffs.

I don't think we even underperformed during the regular season - I think it was the way the team was built.

Sessions IS better than Miller for us. As-far as flipping Miller for Sessions with Sessions guaranteed another year? I did not like the trade and would have preferred that we find a PG that is stronger in areas that Wall is not (shot creation and shooting) Sessions is not good at getting his shot off.

I didn't get to watch the game again :( but tried to follow on boxscore. I'm a bit surprised they even kept it competitive as long as they did.

Two things,

Was nene's play really that bad? Was it bad luck on some shots? Lack of competent play? Poor effort?
Were the refs that bad? I mean it is rare for Gortat to be in foul trouble, but I find it kinda weird he actually fouled out. We're kinda biased as wiz fans but if anyone has an objective answer, I'd like to read it.

Yes, it was atrocious on both sides of the ball. Dumb passes for turnovers, inept scoring 2 ft from the bucket on multiple attempts. Effort on D was bad bad, especially closing out on shooters. He walks/lumbers up to Millsap on the 3pt line. Not boxing out, jogging down the floor in transition. I can't recall a worse 25+ minute performance.

I generally like Nene and recognize that this matchup is poor for his skillset, but it looks like an effort issue. Maybe his foot problems are flaring up.

As for the refs, there were a lot of bad calls and missed calls on both sides. I think the general ref factor leaned toward ATL, but it wasn't enough to embarrass Wizards fan everywhere by whining about it in every post on every forum in existence. Unbalanced games happen sometimes. It's not an anti-Washington conspiracy that needs a senate commission. Have some tact guys.

It didn't make sense for the Zards to wait to find the perfect complement to Wall before pulling the trigger on a trade, because that player may not have been available. As you say, Sessions is better than Miller for the Zards and that's what counts most.

What I've always liked about Sessions is that he attacks the rim and gets to the FT line. On top of that, his shooting has been more than solid recently. Ramon shot 60% from 3 pt. range in April, and during the playoffs he's shooting almost 50% from 2 pt. range and better than 50% on 3 pters. As it turns out, the trade for Sessions was a smart move on the part of EG and the Zards.

There were at least 2 plays that I remember where we got favorable calls.
Gortat's uncalled obvious travel (how'd they miss that?) and Gooden getting the 3rd foul on Antic.
(either a no call or a call on Gooden depending on when the mutual fouling started).
I deleted the game from my DVR so I won't be able to go back and review more comprehensively.
I'm sure we got hosed a few times too. Remembering one egregious moving screen by Horford
that went uncalled compared with a much less egregious that Nene did get called for.

Why was it necessary to remove Sessions early and have Beal run the point for some minutes? Sessions was horrible before he regained his composure, they hated him at SAC.
