Barely Awake is the appropriate metaphor in this situation. It sucks that you had a heart attack, but you're still here, moving forward, making the best of it, learning from it.

The Wizards aren't likely to go much further without Wall, but I didn't expect them to go too far this year anyway. Prior to the season, missing the playoffs entirely seemed a possibility with some bad breaks, and the way the team trailed off in the second half, getting to the second round seemed very dependent on the first round matchup. Then they got to face the talented and disciplined Hawks in the second round. No guarantees there.

The remainder of this series offers a good chance for Beal to experience the pressure of being #1. It's a good chance for Porter to be a leading option in critical minutes. I wish there were more young players (Jordan Clarkson?) on the roster to similarly gain experience, but perhaps losing Wall better illustrates to Terd and Ernie, fans, media, etc. the fragility of the team's fortunes and the incompleteness of the roster.

Maybe the Wizards, without Wall, dig deep and somehow pull out the gutty upset win over the Hawks. Terd will no doubt become even more insufferable, and EG will probably revert to the norm after a pretty good year as GM. They'll still need a new coach and a new GM. If they win the EC finals and then go on to beat the Warriors, I'll relent, because smart or lucky, a winner's a winner. I'll still know they had no rational reason for believing the team was going to be that good.

Only when my team's once more champion will I consecrate the bond of obedience.

There's absolutely no way we were winning the championship even if we beat Atlanta. Probably would have been swept by CLE let alone GSW.
No point in risking it by forcing him back. We remember what happened to arenas.
Let's wait until next year...

I totally disagree. You wouldve said the same thing about the Raps series and definitely the Hawjs before the pkayoffs started. The fact is we matchup great with the bulls and cavs without love. We would definitely give them hell and nene is a much bigger factor in both series. Even a great team like GS. We matchup great with our small ball with them having green at the 4

Here you have a hint of what a group of posters (you know who they are) will be saying over and over next year:

"We had a shot at a title until Wall went down." From there, over time, it will develop to "the year we should have won the title."

The fact that Love too is injured and out will be forgotten. The fact that we were 1-0 (not 2-0 or 3-0) vs. Atlanta will turn into the 100% certainty that we win the series w/ John. Etc. etc. etc.

It's a major drag for Wall to have been injured (as it is to Cleveland fans that Love got injured). We had a good shot to beat Atlanta, and that would have been fun had it happened. And it sure would have been fun to see how far we did manage to get.

But... you know what, it's still fun. We're still playing basketball, unlike 22 other teams. And we're at home too. So lets go win the game today.

Everything will still be awful, but we'll be up 2-1 in the series.

Go Wizards!
