great point on Griffin not having the court awareness of a PG. In my head I'm like, "you can't feel that kind of traffic around you? GEEEEZ!!!!1" But, he probably really can't.

Btw, I think this is our first win w/o Matt at the helm right?

Porous Defense, Poorest Rockets

Post#182 » by Ranma » Sat May 9, 2015 8:00 pm

I mentioned before about how Houston is a vulnerable team, but dang, the Rockets are quite prone to giving up runs given their lack of D and if we don't slow the pace by reaching in on Harden's drives to the basket. DJ is going toe-to-toe in neutralizing Howard, for the most part. Smith can chuck 3's all the live long day, for all I care. After being outscored by 20 points in the 2nd quarter in Game 2, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the 23 unanswered points given up by the Houston defense last night in Game 3.

I don't know why Jason Terry hit Blake Griffin's back, anyone?

blake is just super out of it. tough game for him, he should send rivers a gift basket after tonight. blake is just trying too hard but that's ok, i don't mind. he can look back on this playoff game as a reminder of what happens when you force things.

also, i REALLY hope he can call upon this game in the offseason because he needs a ton of work on his handle.

Really? He turned it over tonight from rushing it too much and trying to do to much at one time. It's not his handles in my opinion. Not to mention, the guy's literally playing Point Guards at times, I highly doubt that this was ever planned this early with CP's injury.

Agreed, mike.

It was obvious that Blake was doing too much. Credit to McHale for tweaking his strategy on Blake with CP3 out of the game. He picked him up 3/4 court and put pressure in his face. Blake was trying to push tempo and get out in transition, which is fine. The problem is that his court awareness is not that of a PG. A PG looks for a defender picking him up early, looks for pressure and slows tempo when he sees it.

Blake was trying to dribble through pressure and make his nifty behind the back dribbles in transition at half court.

to clarify i wasn't blaming blake's handle for his TO's last night. i think it contributed to a couple of them, but he mostly was pressured into make some bad decisions for sure.

i just think it's an overall thing that would help blake out. his handle is great for a big guy but i think he can ascend to another level if he can keep improving it anyway.

Thanks. Couldn't have done it without Austin & JJ.

Just frustration, which tends to happen when your team is down by 20+. He apologised after the game and I didn't think it was that vicious to begin with.

The contrast between this and the Spurs series is kind of unbelievable, but also kind of expected. It's crazy the Spurs had to go down in the first round.

in a way i'm kind of angry at houston. i don't want this team to lose the edge they gained against the spurs.

Good to see CP back and playing. Hopefully this injury doesn't hurt him the rest of the way

yeah hopefully not. his comments post-game i didn't like hearing, as he sidestepped all the comments about how it actually felt. made me think he was gutting through it, which is obviously not good.

but it sounded like he was feeling a lot better today so that's encouraging. i'll take any progress possible with these short rest days in the playoffs.
