He has been horrible on both ends. At least Harden is scoring efficiently

curry is up against arguably the best defense, harden is playing the clippers

Davis? He hasn't played in like a week and a half. Paul is playing fantastic and may make a push for a top spot, but Davis may not be in my 5 even.

The best frontcourt D in the league (2 DPOY candidates defending him on different plats and positions)couldn't stop him from doing what he wanted. He is playoff proven at least offensively IMO. And yes his defense is overrated but its still much better than any other serious candidate for top 5 except lebron

I still can't say he had a better year than Paul, Curry, or Harden overall. He's close w/ Lebron and Westbrook for 4/5 IMO. And that's my 5 riht now, unless Lebron royally stinks up the next few games.

These playoffs have been weird. Curry, LeBron, and Harden have been underwhelming to say the least (the latter 2 more than the former). If all 3 of them don't get their act together in their respective game 4s there's a chance all 3 go home in the 2nd round. Before the 2nd round started I was sure Curry was going to in my top spot but if he goes home in 2nd round and CP/Blake make a deep run there's an outside chance both of them finish first and second.

Should be an interesting next couple of days.

Also, seems like this is a little vindication for KD's struggles vs. Memphis. If you wanna dock him for it last year, look at Curry right now.

I think most of us here knew that Memphis wasn't a real 7th seed and Allen is one of the best defenders in the game. He's pretty strong and did a great job of pushing KD away from his sweet-spots/denying him the ball. Memphis also shaded him pretty well in that series. Gasol was excellent in that regard.

I had LeBron #1 last year and thought he was better overall in the PS than KD with his defense coming back consistently and he was scoring at will.

Curry will be docked if GSW lose and he continues to struggle.

I don't really care who wins this series but man it's funny to see so many people are rooting for them to fail to back the notion of you can't win "shooting jumpshots" or that analytics are crap.

I want Memphis/LAC, partially bc I like the teams, partially bc I would rather watch those 2 play. BLOODBATH.

Memphis vs. Wiz Finals is in play. Gasol should be given #1 by default and Paul "I called Game" Pierce has to be #2 in that case .

Pierce already entered my top 5 when I heard him say that.

Memphis has prolly been the best playoff defense of the past few years. the only team that beat them without a ton of problems were the Spurs and even then 2 games came down to the wire. Theyre easily one of the best playoff teams of this era

? I'd say Curry is playing the worst of those three in the second round.

This game is a trainwreck. It is pretty shocking to think the ECF could be Washington against Chicago. Would that be the worse CF since Bird-Magic entered the NBA?

Maybe some of the early 2000s ones w/ the Nets or Philly?

Edit: Could be Nets/Celtics in 02 or Philly/MKE in 03.

2nd Edit: Glad to see you around sp6r!

If Washington sans Wall beats the Hawks, that's pretty amazing. I came into the playoffs expecting the Hawks to get "upset" by teams we actually had every reason to think had a top gear above the Hawks...and even then I didn't have a healthy Wizards team on that list. Losing without Wall isn't even a non-quote upset, it's an UPSET.

I'd have to think tomorrow is the biggest test. Was yesterday the Wizards winning on emotion of overcoming adversity or an actual crazy upset? I'm completely confused by that series, every issue Washington had all season has miraculously disappeared, Beal is playing well, Wittman coaching well, and they're semi-competent off the bench. It would be the most surprising series in the last few years I can remember.

On the Warriors-Grizzlies series:

This is the series that I was pointing to long before we knew the matchup would actually happen. Yes the Spurs are scary, but when you lose to the Spurs, you just know its cause they were the better team. The Grizzlies are the worse team, but they are basically in every way NOT the type of team the Warriors were optimized to beat.

If the Warriors lose resoundingly, you actually may have to call into question the entire Draymond-as-a-4 model, which is a huge problem because it's only playing Green this way that let the Warriors be the dominant team they were...and the Warriors probably have to decide ASAP whether to continue with the model or not.

As for Curry himself, I have a tough time being two worried about him. I mean, he's my #1 POY as we speak, and he may certainly lose that honor with poor play, but I have a tough time believing that any defense "solves" Curry in the long term. We know how good of a shooter he is, and we know he's smart if not brilliant as a passer. He'll be alright.

Right now, I'm leaning towards:

1. Curry
2. Harden
3. CP3
4. Davis
5. LeBron
6. Westbrook

Nobody else is even close, in my opinion, so I won't even mention any more names. Well, I think I used to underrate Blake Griffin by not having him even in my top 10. I think he has a legit case for #7.

Oh and in terms of my top 5 so far, it remains to this point as its been from the regular season:

1. Curry
2. Harden
3. Paul
4. LeBron
5. Davis

The shifts in my mind that have been made:
-Harden is losing some steam as I'm seeing stuff to indicate once again that his unipolar game tends to be less potent in the playoffs.
-LeBron has sunk a bit so that I'm actually starting to debate him vs Davis.
-Blake Griffin is the guy on my mind possibly breaking in. It's at this point possible to see a clear path toward him actually leading the Clippers (as the alpha over Paul) to a title as the most impressive guy in the playoffs. If he does that he may rise all the way to #1. On that note:

I'm trying to remember a time where that has, or would have, happened to me in the past: Non-Top 5 RS MVP guy who ended up POY.
The obvious guy to mention is Dwyane Wade in '05-06 except that he was in my top 5 unlike the actual MVP voters.
