I know Milwaukee probably wouldn't do it but would fans trade a top 3 pick, thjr for Giannis, ilyasova, and bucks pick this yr.

no, I really like giannis but he isn't that good. Giannis isn't worth a top 3 pick and he isn't a fit for our system.

No, but would you trade $8 million of our Cap and Tim Hardaway Jr. for OJ Mayo and their 1st Rounder (#17)?

You forgot to mention Calderon going to Milwaukee and Ilyasova's contract going to a 3rd team.

How is he not a fit for our system? He fits the Pippen/Odom mold perfectly.

we aren't going small. Melo is not playing the 4. And I like giannis but he isn't a good enough shooter to play off the ball consistently. I understand he is young but what one thing does giannis do great? Again really good young player but trading a top pick for giannis is not a smart move.
He also wanted to take on Illyasova's contract for some reason.

Giannis can play the 4 with Melo at the 3. It doesn't matter if he is a good shooter because he would primarily be used as a primary ball-handler/point forward. Melo should be transitioned away from that role, both to ease the wear and tear on him and also because frankly, he is just not very good at playing the Harden role of driving and facilitating from the top of the key (or the MJ/Kobe role if we want to stick with the triangle). He is first step is getting slower, he makes poor decisions when he's on the move, and for a star player, he is flat out bad at finishing in the paint. Thus, whether it's Giannis or somebody else, we need a primary ball-handler.
What does Giannis do great? Defense and finishing at the rim. He is one of only a handful of guys in the league who can drive from the top of the key and dunk against a packed defense.

giannis consistently playing the 4? No way, he would need to get a lot bigger playing the 4.
Lets let the kid develop before we make him out to be some superstar. He has a lot of talent but so does the rookies in this class. I get it, I watch youtube videos as well and he has some great coast to coast dunks, but he has yet to show he is effective in the half court game.

He is 7 **** feet tall.. I am confident he will fill out enough to play the 4, especially next to a relatively bulky 3 in Melo. And if we can sign Love (who is more likely to come to play with Giannis than a rook IMO), we can put him at the 2.
It's not all coast to coast dunks. He has plenty of drives against fully set defenses. Yes, he's raw, but odds are the guy we draft will be raw too and 2 years behind Giannis in NBA development.

Another point co remember with Giannias, he's making a good $3m less than a top 3 pick would be making next offseason.

People seem to assume Phil wants to go super-big because the last line-up they remember with him had Gasol/Bynum in the frontcourt. But when you factor in Odom, Horry, and Rodman, most of his teams have had smaller, rangier guys at the 4.

Re: FREE AGENT/Trade/Transaction Idea thread (14'-15')
all those guys were strong low post defenders and exceptional rebounders (horry was a part time bench player) he shouldn't be counted.
Odom and Rodman were exceptional on the glass, putting giannis at the 4 would be a disaster down low. Do you think he would body with Zach Randolph, David West, Terrence Jones, Draymond Green, Kevin Love. Just to name a few.
I think Giannis is a rangy point forward that should be used as such. Its not going to happen anyway and I think Milwaukee is a good team for him to continue to develop his game.

Re: FREE AGENT/Trade/Transaction Idea thread (14'-15')
I didn't include Calderon to make it more reasonable deal for the Bucks side. Ilyasova's contract is not bad to me because A) he is a good player(when Healthy) and B) his last year is a team option, so it comes off the books at the right time.
Re: Giannis / He has shown ability defensively and has improved offensively. He is on the way up. Remember, he is only a year older than the top draft choices this year and he has already shown that he is a legit NBA player with major potential. All of these draft picks are still mysteries who could be busts.
I do think he is a system fit at the 3 in a Pippen/Kukoc/Odom role. I would move Melo at the 4 just like Dudley played the 4 for most the year. Hey, Phil didn't mind going small this season by Paying/playing Jason Smith and Bargs at the 4 so why not move Melo to the 4 when he defends and rebound better than both of them. However, there would be another option, play Giannis at the 2, Melo at the 3, and Ilyasova at the 4. That would be kind of extreme because of Giannis lack of a proven jumper. He has enough handle to get away with playing the two but the key would be to use him as an attacker ala Monta Ellis or Derozan. I think he might improve going against smaller defenders.

How is playing two 7ftrs at the 4 going small?

Knicks trade #1 (Towns), Calderon & THJ.

Knicks sign Monroe & T-Harris.
Oladipo/Schved
Galloway /Fournier
Melo/Harkless/Early
T-Harris/L-Thomas/Lou
Monroe/WCS
If I could get 2 top young defensive players Oladipo/WCS for the #1 pick I think about it. Plus Oladipo is the type of guy / player that get his own and get into the paint.
Doubt Orlando would move Victor but they could pair Towns with Vucevic and pair E-Payton with THJ in backcourt.
I don't hate this.
People really underestimate the fact we sorely need a competent lead guard in this offense.
Equal opportunity, share the ball, blah-blah. We still need a guy able to improvise within and outside the principles of the triangle.
A guard. Not (just) Melo. I don't see an available one on the market that fits the mold. Not Reggie, Rondo, Middleton, etc.
I'd definitely go HARD, pause, for 'Dipo before the inevitable break out.
Yeah I agree -- while some see this as a trade of our #1 Towns straight up for #5 WCS --- it's really about finding the right type of lead guard and I think "Dipo" fits that mold.
So in this case I'm willing to sacrifice a shot at Towns to exchange him for a new starting lead guard (Dipo) and new starting center (WCS) -- both of whom could be NBA 1st team defense type players.
Just don't see Orlando making this deal but it's interesting.

This is the type of stuff that is going to be getting discussed -- we just need to hope for the highest pick and then let Phil sort thru any proposals teams come forward with.
I am in no way 100% sold that we have to keep the pick -- whether it be #1, #2, #3, #4 or #5.
You sit back and see what offers come in -- if they don't make the team better -- you keep the pick and take whomever.

I think I would strongly consider a deal like that but if this trade happen at the draft then I doubt they include/let Tobias walk. They'll likely keep him since they will need to fill out their roster and they would have passed up on getting a 3 for pairing Vucevic with Towns. They can keep Tobias or trade him when/if Gordan can really play the 3 or just let Grodan backup Tobias and Towns. That would be the smart choice.
I am not a WCS fan and unless Russell is their I am trading out the 5 spot. I would then go into swap picks/ gather assets mode. I'd definitely talk to Jordan about swapping picks and maybe Vonleh plus their second. I would then try to trade back with Boston to get 2 of their picks

Perhaps, but that is still an expectation of size at those position, even if those particular players could not get the job done
