Behind the Scenes of Turner's Testing

Post#1 » by cedric76 » Wed May 13, 2015 7:12 am

Turner selected Andy Miller of ASM Sports as his representation earlier this spring. Miller, in concert with Turner, Turner's father David, and renowned Dallas strength coach Ken Roberson, decided to be proactive about the questions facing the 19 year old center and look for answers in advance of the NBA Combine. That search led Turner and his team to undergo a trio of tests at the Hospital for Special Surgery based in New York, the same hospital where Kevin Love and Paul George had their respective surgeries done over the last year.

The returns of Turner's lower extremity physical, running mechanics physical, and foot and ankle evaluation revealed the root of Turner's mechanical issues as weakness in both his left and right gluteus medius. The resulting 27-page report, which includes analysis from three phyisicians, stills of Turner performing various stability and running on a treadmill, and numerous x-rays was distributed to all 30 NBA teams, but more significantly, paints a picture of an imbalance that can be corrected over time.

That was awesome for Turner I'm glad he did this and is going the extra mile to correct his issue, it says a lot about the kid and his determination to get better. I think today is going to be a huge day for him as well just to see his measurements and then the next few days in five on five if he participates in those drills. Myles is definitely at play for me in that 5-6 range and would be a great piece for us imo.

Good, hopefully he shoots up the board. The more top talent at the top of the draft, the better for us.

Yes, we really need him to test out well! Another good option for us, the better!

Elite wingspan, yes. I'm in agrience with everyone so far. Raise that stock young buck.

What must he actually do to work on his gate?
The future is bright 8-) Payton said. ``I just want to keep getting better and maybe one day I can be the all-time all assists leader for the Magic.’’

Strength

Elite rebounding
Rim protection
Elite wingspan
shooting stroke
Elite standing reach

weakness
Athleticism (We ll get a better idea of that in few days but i think his number will be much better than expected and will only get better now that he has a tailored made program)
Strength/toughness (he is only 19 and has great work ethic so i have no doubt that it ll improve)
Offensive polish (he is only 19 but a defensive stretch 4/5 r hard to find)
fundamentals on D (we need a proper defensive minded coaching staff)
Health (not an issue)

Overall, it looks very good to me, i wouldnt be upset if we draft him

He seems smart and hardworking. I like his shooting stroke. I know he has a rim protecting reputation, but in the NBA it takes athleticism as well as length. Hopefully he scores at least average in those metrics.

Timing is just as important. M.Gasol and Duncan are not very athletic but effective shot blockers. Blake Griffin jumps out of the gym when he dunks but doesn't get many blocks.

Yeah that's very true. His standing reach means he won't need to jump a lot of the time. But being at least average in the athletic department will help him get in position and of course jump when needed, so it would be helpful obviously.
