Rate these Piston assets in order

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Fri May 15, 2015 11:10 am

How do you rate the value of these assets, in order?

Drummond
2015 1st pick
SVG
Jackson
KCP
Monroe

EDITED to add Monroe and put assets in my order of importance.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Just to be clear, that wasn't my order. I've now edited the OP to reflect my order.

Yes, we still have some limited rights, but given his status and likelihood of leaving I left him out.

Only team that can offer 5 years
Only team that can execute S&Ts
Only team that can offer max increases

Doesn't matter if he's looking to leave its in his own best interests to work with us to maximize his earnings

1.Drummond
2.SVG
3.Jackson
3.Jennings(trade bait. Good player, Expiring, part of an unreal PG rotation as of now)
4.Pick
5.KCP. If KCP ever starts shooting the ball well, consistently, we will have a fantastic defensive, good shooting, SG for the next 10+years. I view him as the next Prince.

I cheated a bit, but our pg's are so important because of Drummond. Drummond is the Pistons future, plain and simple, and having excellent pg's like these two, are great.

Okay, I'm pulling the rug out from under the people who have posted by adding Monroe.

Eh, Monroe cannot get a 5 year deal with max increases in a S&T. He can only get that if he stays with us, so neither Monroe nor other teams have incentive to work out a S&T deal with Detroit

SVG - Gotta be first, look at what we were with Frank, Loyer etc.
Drummond - No brainer for 2nd if not 1st.
2015 1st - Hopefully a player that will be our starting SF for years with the rest of our core
Jackson - Tough choice here but PG first as he'll be distributing/playmaking etc.
KCP - last guy left so yeah

Personally Monroe being an UFA, I wouldn't count as an asset
Easily one of the biggest Detroit Piston (and NBA) fans in Australia

I think Drummond & Stan are the only two that matter.

Jackson / KCP / Jennings / #8 are nice pieces, but if we could package them for the equivalent of the Harden-Rockets trade I'd do it without thinking twice.

SVG: It feels great to have a competent coach with a scheme
Dre: has the capability of being the best Center in the NBA
Reggie: Should be a top 10 PG maybe even top 5
KC3; Hopefully puts up 15-17ppg this yr, he is capable
1st rd pick: I would probably put above KC3, but idk who it is yet
Moose: I would put him 3rd if re signed, even if he didn't workout he can net us something

I'm really surprised so many are putting SVG ahead of Dre. There are other coaches. It seems it would be a lot harder to get another talent like Dre.

Ask in 2-3 years down the road, Dre still has to develop, SVG will be a big part of that too.

It's been so long since we have seen a coach show he knows what he's doing

I just think a great coach leads to more success than a good center. I'd feel differently if I thought Drummond could be a superstar, but there are a handful of centers/center prospects that I would take over him.

I remember a debate back in the old Orlando feud days on a episode of First Take. The question was who should Orlando keep Dwight or Stan.

3-4 said Dwight while one guy said SVG. The rest were ragging him but he was making some valid points about how rare of a coach SVG is and could take any roster and transform it into a good team. Looking back now it looks like he was right.

Value is determined by what someone else will give you for them. SVG is very important to the future of the team, but we can't trade him.

Dre

Jackson
KCP
Monroe
