Re: A petition for the firing Billy King (please help us)
I'm a Heat fan with no Brooklyn ties, and hearing that BK may get an extension pisses me off purely out of principle.
I've never gotten to run a franchise into the ground even once. It's not fair that BK gets to do it over and over

I don't think Billy King is a good GM, and you'd certainly be better off with someone better moving forward, however you can understand the reasoning. He's basically accomplished the goals of ownership for the NY move; make the playoffs and be competitive to build our brand in NY for the first 3-4 years, while we wait for cap space. The guy was a heart beat away from getting Dwight, and if he had things would have proceed very differently (including less knee jerk moves in response to that unseen development).

Almost bringing D12 to Brooklyn wasn't a stroke of genius by Billy. Howard said he wanted to be traded to the Nets and Orlando and the Nets were working out a deal. I'm not going to credit Billy with a task that any GM could've accomplished since Howard was the one who kickstarted everything.
We're evaluating Billy King on moves that require him to be savvy and use his intellect to show that he's a smart GM. You can make the playoffs and be competitive in the East without destroying cap space and giving away draft picks like its candy on Halloween. Billy came into a situation with a ton of assets and needlessly burned right through them. On top of that, he tends to compound his mistakes or because he doesn't like admitting or showing that he make was wrong before.
That's why he needs to be fired.

I'm not disputing that you need a new front office. I'm just saying that you can understand the mindset of ownership in thinking "he did the job we asked him to do, given the circumstances."

No one in New York cares about the Nets. The Knicks had a historically god awful season and there was more interest in them than the Nets because the Nets were god awful to watch for 2/3rds of the year.

If he doesn't get fired for the Boston trade alone then nothing will. The Russians love him because he's their whippin boy.

Celtics fans should be ecstatic. The prognosis of their 2016 and 2018 unprotected first round draft picks and their 2017 first round draft pick swap option being very high lottery picks has just gotten better with news of a Billy King extension. What in the world is Proky thinking?

The Nets hade made the playoffs 3 years in a row, and their fanbase and revenue seems to be swelling. Last season Forbes ranked the Nets 3rd in revenue among all NBA teams (behind only the Knicks and Lakers), up from 30th in NJ. I the plan is working pretty well so far. Once your payroll reduces back to normal levels there will be plenty of profits and a fanbase in place

The problem is that with King at the helm there is no guarantee that the payroll will be reduced to normal levels. He was talking about how the Nets could pay Lopez and Thad more than any other team could. With that sort of mindset you're never going to see payroll at "normal" levels.

So the solution would be to let other teams take the only valuable and contributing assets the Nets have?

I don't mind paying Lopez as much as possible, he earned it by pushing us into the playoffs. But overpaying Thad isn't something I'd like to see. Yes he did contribute to the team, but should he get a huge contract? Not really. And if you look at what King said at his end of season press conference he was talking about how he doesn't mind having to pay the luxury tax.

Of course he doesn't mind having to "pay" the luxury tax...it's not his money

Re: A petition for the firing Billy King (please help us)
With this Nets team starting 0-4 and losing to a depleted winless Bucks team things aren't looking good.
As others have mentioned, the best thing that can happen for the Nets this season is Billy King finally is fired.
Please supports www.firebillyking.com - sign our petition and spread the word. Please tell everyone you know, post on other message boards, twitter or facebook, and add to your signature if you support this. The more signatures the more it will help us.
A rep from ownership has contacted us and regardless of what 'other' web-site may be saying Billy King staying for next season has not been decided and depends on how this season plays out. If fans truly speak up, this can be a huge lift. Hundreds have already signed, but the hope is for thousands. Ownership is listening. Please support www.firebillyking.com

It's not all King's fault but he will be the scapegoat.

Was waiting for this to be bumped. I already signed and fully support any movement to get Billy King out of here.

Yes, and no.
There was a staged Dolan protest outside MSG right before he hired Phil. Maybe they were independent events and Dolan had his mind made up already about hiring Phil anyway, but I don't think it's bad for a fan base to vocalize their displeasure with the product being sold to us.

The Nets organization has already contacted us twice. Prokorov may be in charge and may not be an online user, but there are a lot of people working with him in ownership who are passionate about this team. They browse the message boards, they read all the links. They do care about the fans and sentiment that is out there.
Put it this way; when Prokorov has a board meeting about Billy King's future (which they will have) several people that work for Onexim will have an opinion and speak up. The opinions of each of these members will be based on how the team performs and how the fans are reacting. What they see online is a big piece of that.
It is silly to simply to waive this off when it is real and ownership knows about it.
