Makes no difference for what the Pistons owe him:

Once the Pistons exercised the stretch provision, and deferred Smith's last two years under contract over five years of payments, none of that amount can be defrayed. Smith won't get his $13.5 million per year for the next two years on the original schedule, but he'll get every penny, and still be free to sign with another NBA team in future seasons, without reducing payments he receives from Detroit.

It has no impact on what Gores pays him but it has a big impact on how much Gores can pay future players. Its all about reducing the cap hit from 5mil down to 2. Smith having a min salary player impact on our team and salary cap is ideal.

He did really well against Dallas and really horrible, up until the final 2 games, vs LA. Also, he actually gets to play his role because he has Harden and Howard as teammates making him a no.3b (Him and Ariza) player that he should always be.

Return to Detroit Pistons
