For what it's worth, I didn't know I was Brazilian either. I am a fan of Brazilian soccer. I do speak Portuguese of course. I know BraSil. I mean, I lived there for years. I admire the distinctly feminine pulchritude of the mulher brasileira... That's not enough though. I still have to stand in the other line in the airport when I visit.

São Paulo was kicked out of the Libertadores last week. They lost to Cruzeiro in penalties. I should have been helping them but I was trying to get the Bulls to beat Lebron's new team.

A month into the playoffs and despite all my efforts my soccer team's year is in ashes and the Cavs are in the conference finals. All I have to show for it is the distinct feeling of bathing in scum that comes from cheering for the Celtics and the Bulls. I think I'm going to let the Hawks try it on their own.

On the other hand, I used to work in Gloria, a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro (I swear I'm not Brazilian) and our building was across the street from a catholic school for girls. A few girls from there used to come over to the bar where my friend Marcos and I held forth (drinking cachaça) and sometimes one named Nani Venancio would sit on my lap. She posed for Playboy in 1989 and I learned today that a couple years ago she was a vereadora (part of the state congress) in São Paulo. Sometimes we would go up to the 13th floor to roll a number (there were only 12 floors on the building so the 13th floor was the rooftop with Cristo Redentor and Corcovado behind us).
