i wonder where Tyus Jones sits on our draft board after underwhelming numbers at the combine. Do all the good stretch 4 prospects jump him leaving him for us? It's going to be an interesting draft night- for a team that really should have gone to conference finals, we do have a lot of holes to fill.

1st round Bobby Portis, Arkansas
The "stretch 4" everyone is clamoring for. 20 yrs old, 6-10 246 7-2 wingspan 9' standing reach, 46% on 3 (limited attempts), 9 boards, 17.5 pts 1 stl 1 asst 1.5 blocks per game, and he HUSTLES! Non stop motor.
2nd round Michael Frazier, Florida
Shooting guard, Beal backup. 21 years old, 6-4, 6-8 wingspan 8.5 standing, played hurt last year hitting on only 38% 3s but 1st 2 seasons shot 47% and 45 % from 3, very good spot up shooter and good defensively.

What's so hard about that?

I wonder how to factor in that Jones is six years younger than Wall, three years younger than Porter and Beal; and is perhaps the youngest draft prospect. He's still 18.

This kid is a baby Curry. I would even trade up to get him.
If he was available to 19, that would be a total steal.
Payne wouldn't suck to get either.
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Cameron-Payne-70346/
Or defensive specialist. Wow he can move. There is your lock down S4 defender. Him and Otto would go nuts.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
http://www.draftexpress.com/video/11672/
Or
Christian Wood .. might take a little while to get stronger but the kid moves like AD.
http://www.draftexpress.com/video/11738/
Plenty of viable picks at 19. And even better. They won't cost much at all.
Man, I wish we had three picks right here. Jones, Rondae and Wood would be a load of young talent.

If Tyus Jones is BPA at #19, I have no problem taking him.

His appeal was that he did everything else well, and the hope was that the offense would come. This season, on slightly below average usage, he was about average in offensive efficiency. And he rebounded well. And he defended well. I wouldn't trade the Porter we've seen in the playoffs for MKG, but I'd trade the regular season Porter for him.
I wouldn't characterize MKG as a bust but I would still say he's been disappointing. He does fill up the stat sheet, but he's only made 3 three pointers in his entire career.

Yup. I don't care about what his PER, WS/48 or PPA rating is. I'm sure it's pretty good because he's a solid defender and rebounder. The problem is that MKG can't space the floor, and that's death in this league. All wings MUST be able to shoot the 3 or your team is dead in the water. That counts even more so if your point guard is John Wall who can't spread the floor himself but is a master at the skip pass. MKG on this team would be very bad.

I think the Wizards will be Wall's team and they have need and available minutes at other positions.
I would definitely draft a big like Portis ahead of Jones.
I would probably draft Jones ahead of Jerian Grant, even though I am more impressed with Grant's last season. He's much older.
As far as BPA goes, looking at how important three point shooting and athleticism are, I believe Justin Anderson should be rated higher. Athletes like Jordan Mickey and even Richaun Holmes are guys I could see fitting nicely with the Wizards.
I don't see Jones as BPA, but his winning and his youth intrigue me.

Re: Draft Thread 2015: All in for Jahlil Okafor! or somebody...
Key word: "disappointing." MKG wasn't a good shooter in college. The appeal of MKG coming out of Kentucky was that he could do lots of stuff well. His poor jump shooting was known. Reasonable expectations for him in the NBA were that he'd be a good defender, that he'd rebound his position well, and that he'd improve his shooting and overall offensive game with some work.
What's he done as a pro? Well, he's played good defense, and he's rebounded his position well. For his career, his team has been a little better on offense when he's been in the game (by about 1.7 points per 100 possessions), and significantly better on defense (4.0 points per 100 possessions). While his jump shooting still could not be considered a strength, it has improved each year of his career -- from .272 on jumpers as a rookie to .283 his 2nd season to .361 this year. He's reduced his already low turnovers to an even lower level. His overall offensive efficiency (106 points produced per 100 possessions) was right at league average (105.6) this year on usage that was a little below average (18.4% of his team's possessions -- 20% is average).
I don't see any reason to view this kid as a disappointment. He's been exactly what could have been reasonably expected when he left Kentucky.

After all the nice things I've said to you, ccj?? And you leave me off that list? Man!
But whether any of us could is irrelevant -- the real point is that a good GM could do that!
Yet, when you chuck as many assets as we have in order to reach a more or less sustainable mediocrity, you certainly get in your own way in re: the draft, so a new guy will have an uphill climb if the goal is to play in a championship series w/in 3 years (i.e. not just "kick butt" in some undefined way).

Re: Draft Thread 2015: All in for Jahlil Okafor! or somebody...
I'd probably get the justification of Tyus Jones if I didn't think he'd be completely physically and athletically overmatched. The league is saturated with good PGs, and while I think he can probably eventually become a solid backup, i'm ok with sessions for now. Assets ought to be used on more pressing needs. Namely a 4 and backup 2.
Also R. Jefferson cannot shoot the 3, probably not what we need. He isn't large enough to play the 4 either. I also don't want him taking minutes away from Porter. We've done that enough. Trading down for C. Woods is worth entertaining but that dude needs to pack on the meat!
There isn't a fiber in my body that wants Lyles. Trading back for Upshaw wouldn't surprise, but a 5 isn't what i'm lookin for in the 1st round.
nbadraft.net probably has my favorite scenario, Looney and Jiteh. The Ted can bring in Dez Wells and UDFA to fill up more seats

There's a reasonable chance he will be the BPA at 19, imo. What I'm concerned about is the likelihood they reach for a PF like Looney or Martin there. I doubt they reach for Wood - too skinny and undisciplined. I hope they're going to do a lot of due diligence work on Upshaw. If I had to guess right now who the pick will be, I'd guess Harrell. He's definitely not a perfect fit, but he's a PF - with the best combo of athleticism, strength, and attitude.

Thinking about our R2 pick (i.e. the one we hope Ernie isn't going to p#ss away) -- does anyone like Alan Williams? He's projected to go #60 by DR.
He has had an extremely productive college career, and he seems to have had a great Combine just now as well. His size is far from ideal; then again, he'd likely be a lottery pick (or in the league already) if it were.
Tokoto looked great at the Combine, btw -- no chance he'll fall to us in R2. Then there's Hanlan -- this year's Jordan Clarkson?
