I think if he works hard on his post game, towns is more suited to be a duncan comp than okafor. His block and rebound rates are much more similar, and both have good 20 feet range. Duncan low block game usually start face up, which is not the case with OK.
He already have a great baby hook to begin with.

Yeah, I was starting to get confused by the okafor / duncan thing. To me Towns looks like he has a MUCH better chance to be the complete player that Duncan is than Okafor... Better range on his shot, better defense, etc.

I still prefer Towns. I think he's perfect for this team. Wiggins is our alpha male scorer, Towns is the perfect two way compliment.

Yeah, I would like to see slimmed down Okafor before making any decisions.
With regard to scoring. There always be shots for big, since our PG is Rubio and all other PF except KG are low efficient shooters. It would be better to see Okafor missing high % shots at rim, covered with offensive rebounds, rather than see AB or Payne missing long jumpers. Also if Okafor is really good passer we can dump him the ball down low without hurting offensive flow.

I agree, I think Towns is a bit overrated defensively but offensively he might be underrated. People see Okafor's polished low post game but do they see a guy in Towns that shot above 80% at the charity stripe, developed a solid low post game, was a solid passer and he also hit some clutch shots at UK.

That is a big time shot, a seven footer hitting that shot and he can play defense and score in the post. Hard to pass on that.

Yes, Okafor FTs is clearly thing to consider. Id say that this is biggest issue with him at the moment.
When I watched UK games I had impression that Towns blocked a lot of shots because
1) he was aggressive in defense. Sometimes too much aggressive
2) they tunneled wings to him
3) he had WCS to rotate

What if Okafor gets same aggression?

May I say, Tanking rules by the way? Those losses at the end really mattered!

I do like the potential of a Towns/Upshaw combo. If Upshaw has his head on straight.

Congrats on landing the 1st overall pick.

Now that you'll probably draft Towns or Okafor, how's the Bulls offer Taj + #22 for Dieng + Filler.

One of the more interesting options with Towns is pairing him with a defensive specialist at center and being a big, defensive team that dominates the paint. Like he did with WCS at Kentucky.

I finally feel like Minnesota actually has a basketball team. Like this is the beginning of what the Thunder did in building what they had. Remains to be seen obviously, but we're gonna have a really nice core group of guys after we pick #1. This year will certainly be another struggle, we'll be in the lottery again, but we're moving in the right direction

That step back was fantastic. Towns is a real smooth player. How about the Step Back Brothers (Step Brothers?!?) AND the Bounce Brothers! On the same team? Oh, that's just sweeeeet. Wiggins, Lavine, and Towns. That's a big three right there.

I voted Towns, but I agree with this. The country club should get a chance to do measurements/athletic testing that could factor in and we may just have to guesstimate at since neither went to the combine.

The tipping point for me is that Towns projects to be the type of big man that doesn't take anything off the table. I think he gets oversold to some extent, but having a big man that can play with anyone, in any system, at any tempo is a huge plus.

Well if he did his defense and rebounding would certainly improve. What makes this hard is that we have one year to look at these players. In one year Okafor was basically the same player meanwhile Towns improved a lot in my opinion. If we had two or three years to look at these players maybe we would have something to show that Okafor was improving defensively and on the glass. Right now I find myself asking is his nature just being kind of lazy and unmotivated at times or where there some circumstances at Duke that forced him to tone down his aggressiveness. They weren't a deep team really, meanwhile UK had more depth allowing Towns to be more aggressive, perhaps too aggressive at times.

I would pack kmart, gorgui/bjellica, both picks and get WCS.
We can do it and then.... watch out western conference

Not Snell, but we'll take Martin if you don't want his contract.

Flip loves Martin. He isn't a throw in. Still a very productive player.

Taj, 22 for Martin and Dieng is fair. Having 22, 31, and 36 would give us some nice assets to move up even more in the draft.

Makes sense.
