I mean.... players id rather have at the 3 and build around?
LBJ, KD, Wiggins, Leonard, PG, Harris, Deng.... maybe the two Green's depending on system..... Parsons as well.... I think AI2 could go back to being a solid scorer in a line up that has him as a top 3 option, and if he could i would definitely take him above Melo as well. Pretty much any 2 way player or more versatile player id take over Melo, which is most every semistar to star SF. Im sure theres a few others i forgot on that list.
The pure point thing that Melo does, does not impress me. Im far more impressed with guys like Deng who have tons of playoff experience, are capable of scoring, rebounding, passing, solid defenders, etc. and who ive seen help will their flawed or incredibly injured team into the second round.... which is just so much more then i can say ive seen from Melo. If im trying to win, im going to pick those guys over Melo. Leadership means something, defense means something, all these attributes that Melo seems to be missing make for a better team player then what he is. In terms of offensive skill, sure, Melo can outscore anyone and can be an offensive force.... but the game is deeper then 1v1 scoring games where that is the only thing we are concerned with.
People tend to forget this guy is going on what? 12 years in the league next season? And his highest accomplishment is "hes a good scorer" and some all star appearances? Come on... we can do better than that.
EDIT: Id like to add that i am used to the above reaction by Knicks fans when i criticize their team as anything below blind fandom is amusing to them. But, as often as i get these responses i have yet to be wrong about Melo or the Knicks.
Please show me all the rings you're superstar SF has with another top 5 player and a perennial DPOY candidate behind him, something Melo never even came close to as support. Show me his top notch defense he plays night in night out. Show me all this value he has outside of being "a good scorer" and some all star appearances.
No one here is saying Melo is better than Durant. But your boy is much closer to a Melo type than he is to Lebron type. Always has been.
