The owners on Tuesday approved the competition committee's proposal to snap the ball from the 15-yard line on PATs to make them more challenging. In recent seasons, kickers made more than 99 percent of the kicks with the ball snapped from the 2.
That proposal places the 2-point conversion at the 2 and allows the defense to return a turnover to the other end zone for the two points, similar to the college rule.
The vote was 30-2. Washington and Oakland voted no. The rule change will be reviewed after one year.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: PAT's Moved Back to the 15
Can they run a fake extra point from the 15 and score two points?

Re: PAT's Moved Back to the 15
Meh...Seems like fixing something that doesn't need fixin.
I guess there's the slight possibility this could be a mild HFA when it's outdoors in bad weather a 32 yard xp maybe the homefield kicker has a slight advantage?? Maybe this rules changes 99% xp completion, to 90%? If so, then so what?
I guess it also makes injuries to a Kicker a bigger deal because 32 yards is harder for a non-kicker specialist in an emergency situation....
Meh...Still think it's trying to hard too fix something that doesn't need fixing.
I don't mind giving 2pts to the defense on a 2pt try, that's kinda fun.

I don't want to see games decided by a missed extra point, and this rule change makes that scenario a more likely possibility this season.

this ×100. Really what NFL fans were sitting around saying boy I wish there were more missed extra points?sidney moncrief wrote:I don't want to see games decided by a missed extra point, and this rule change makes that scenario a more likely possibility this season.
The whole thing doesn't make sense. They looked at the extra point because people felt it was an unnecessary play that still had a chance for guys to get hurt.. OK I get that and would have been fine just getting rid of it. Instead they make just slightly less of a gimme play but don't solve any of the safety issues that brought this issue up in the first place.

Over the last five years, kickers made 93% of all FGs from that distance. I don't think this changes much.

Re: PAT's Moved Back to the 15
I'm fine with them tinkering with it if they really want to, but do something different. As somebody said before, I don't want to see a game decided by a missed extra point, but more importantly, I don't want to see the **** kicker position gain more value.

Well of course a large majority of XP's will still be converted. But if we now go from 1 out of 100 being missed to 1 out of 15, odds are that will impact the outcome of a game this year. Do we really want to see somebody lose because their kicker missed the 32-yard extra point?
If the league considers the extra point meaningless, just get rid of it and make the touchdown an automatic 7. Don't make it a more difficult and MORE meaningful play.

Re: PAT's Moved Back to the 15
This is dumb but you can still attempt 2 point conversions from the 2. I hope we just go for 2 after every touchdown.

In my flag league a 1pt conversion is a 5yrd play a 2pt conversion is a 10yrd play. That makes more sense then this rule.
Agreed with kohl the kicker position just got more important. With games decided often by slim margins there is not a lot of margin of error. Teams with an injured or shaky kicker could be adding a loss or two.
They wanted to add a slight amount of drama to a boring play that could now be the difference in a game. Weird. It is still a boring play.

So does it make more mathematical sense go forth it? If you are converting 45%+ and only 90% on field goals, i could see a lot of team going for 2 on late tds to win instead of a tie.

Just get rid of the extra point try. Seven points for a TD unless a team goes for two, then they get either six or eight.

I would be ok with this. Instead of being gimmicky.

I agree with removing the extra point try, but I'd rather not punish a team for doing for two. So, make the two point conversion a one point play. 7 automatically for the TD. One extra if you convert from the two yard line.

I think it does, but not because of missed XPs. I think the psychological difference is huge, and we see a ton more 2 pt tries. Ultimately, that's what the league is hoping for, too.
