So far I am not too hungry but its early. I feel like juice cleanses are probably BS but I'll try just about anything once.

Suja is one of my fiancés clients. They sent her a full cleanse after she had the baby and she was back to her original weight within a couple weeks.

I on the other hand made it 6 hours and then went and had a steak.

Suja is good because its cold pressed. A little pricey but good stuff.

I did lose about 3 pounds in one day on the juice cleanse but it feel like I was just getting all the poop out of my buddy and not filling it up with anymore. I guess maybe that's what a cleanse is. I was never too hungry in the one day I did it but that suja stuff does taste like crap IMO. I also put back on all the weight since I went to Vegas last week. Damn that city. Good diet and more exercise is my new strat. My wife told me I can tune my car and add a 100 hp to it if I lose ten pounds. So I better get to work.

Yeah, the cleanses I've seen are essentially to reset your intestines, bowels, etc. Clean them out and start anew with as little as possible. If you eat a lot of crap they really do help. But if you are eating right there isn't much benefit to them.

I enjoyed playing sports and do get the itch for baseball/basketball every once in awhile but I'm so happy I decided to give all that up. I played baseball/softball/basketbally frequently through 25 & when I moved to the GB area I kind of gave it all up due to not having a ton of connections to people that played. Kinda glad though looking back. All I hear about is achilles/acl tears, pain as people that play alot get older, etc. Its just not worth it for me. Even our high school alumni BB games, I gave that up the last couple years too. Yes, the competitiveness is tough to give up and just the itch to play, but I just see too many horror stories of major injuries.

I'm a basketball junkie and still play whenever I can, but I've gotten far more into competitive sand volleyball. Really wish I would have played organized volleyball in HS looking back. Great sport.

Turk Nowitzki wrote:After years of reading this thread and everyone's positive results while eating pizza or Taco Bell at 2 in the morning I finally decided to start doing something about my health. I weighed 223 at 5"11" in mid-March when I realized that things were starting to get a little out of hand. As of this morning I am at 188 and it feels really good. I've always been the farthest thing from a health nut so I'm pretty proud of myself. The ultimate goal is to probably lose another 15-20 pounds, maybe build a little more muscle.

For the first couple weeks I cut sugar completely and tried very hard to avoid carbs while making a point to jog/run at least 5 days a week. That was obviously effective but I realized pretty fast that I'm not a diet person. I try now to just eat two lighter, reasonably healthy meals(usually breakfast and lunch) and then pretty much whatever I want(within reason) for dinner, just not an obscene portion size. That seems to be working well enough. No soda and no fast food have been key too. Those two things have obviously been killing my weight/overall health for years. All basic stuff that is easy to do and really does work. Hell, I'm lazy as **** so if I can do it, anyone can do it.

Was wondering if anyone had a recommendations for a workout routine for someone who literally has never lifted a single weight in his life? I'm pretty much doing exclusively cardio right now. Luckily my job involves lifting somewhat heavy things on a regular basis so I think I built a little upper body strength that way, but not much.

I was someone that played a lot of sport, all the time, but i hit my late thirties and slowly started to wind back on the physical activity, yet the food intake didn't slow. As of last December I clocked in at 297 pounds (135kgs) (I'm 6" 2'). Last December something clicked, and i finally decided to do something about it.

I just started doing simple things (in my mind), and found it really easy to do. Probably because i had a shift in mindset. I cut out alcohol, fast food and soft drink completely, cut right back on pasta and rice, and ate a lot more seafood, especially tuna and salmon. Any dairy that i had had to be low fat or not fat. I also made sure that i didn't eat to late at night before bed, and I also now have a meal replacement shake every lunchtime. On top of this, i cut back on portion sizes when i do eat. I no longer eat to stuff myself stupid.

The other thing that i did was start walking. This is the only excercise that i do. No weights, no running, no sports, just walking. I do about two hours a day, which i incorporate into my commute to and from work, as well as an hour's solid walking in my lunch break, so i'm not taking extra time out of my day before or after work away from my family. It's amazing when you get as big as i was getting, that the right change in diet and simple excercise makes a massive difference, and the change is immediate.

I've been able to stick to it, and i even have chocolate, occasional fast food and other things now because i know what i can eat and how it affects my body. By weighing myself each morning and night, i can see how what i had eaten that day affects my body and weight, and you can easily draw your own conclusions over time about what to have and not have.

As of this morning i currently weigh in at 211 pounds (96 kgs), which is basically back to my 'playing weight', although my goal is to lose a few more. So that's over 80 pounds (38kgs) in six months, without hitting a gym, and without paying for a weight loss program or trying some fad diets. I just tried to use common sense with what i know, and it seems to work.

For anyone that is overweight, diet is the key. You can run until you are blue in the face, but if you haven't altered your diet in any serious way, then it won't make a huge difference, and you'll just end up getting frustrated.

Good job to you both. I'm 5'10 and was in the high 190 range. My goal is to not see 200# and through 32+ years I've been good. But I was just feeling sluggish where I was at. I actually got hit with a stomach virus which dropped a couple #s right off the bat but used it to springboard into better habits. As of this morning I was just under 184#. My goal is to be in the 175-180# range.

From an exercise standpoint I started doing a Kettleworx program. I love it b/c it is not very time consuming. At minimum it is 20-25 minutes for 3x week. I do the additional 10-15 minute workouts on 2 of the "off" days. I've been challenged but don't feel like it is an impossible workout. I like that I'm getting arm, core, and cardio all in one. I also try to get 10,000 steps minimum per day (get insurance benefits with this too). And sometimes on my "off" KW days, I'll do a T25 workout. I try to take one day off completely from KW/T25. I've stuck with this almost a month now. It feels great that clothes fit better and I've noticed a little more definition in my arms (more tone than bulk). I hold my weight in face/gut, and can tell both are more trim.

Diet wise I've gotten better but am not perfect. I've limited my soda drinking. I was probably at 10-12/week, and am now more at a half dozen or less. I like regular but have started implementing some of the "Zero" ones. I've really cut down Fast Food at lunch. I opt for Subway 6" and do turkey/veggies/no cheese/mustard. Its like under 300 calories and fills me up for the most part. Whereas before I hit up BK and Culvers mainly. Snacking I've gotten better, especially if it is not in the house. I try not to do late night snacking. After work is the hard one. Unfortunately we hosted a Memorial Day part so alot of junk was around, but I still managaged to lose some from last week. Alcohol I feel I've cut back anyway since having a kid, but if I'm not in a social setting I probably only have a handful of beers and mostly on weekends. And I've started drinking "Lite" beer a little more than straight craft and/or non-Lite.

I do try to count calories a bit during the week via MyFitnessPal. Gives me an idea of where I'm at.

Its not a perfect plan, but so far it has worked for me for losing the initial 10# I guess. If I want to lose 10# I probably need to be on a more disciplined diet.

Now that the summer has arrived and the heat is turnt up... I've gone to almost entirely water. I have an occasional Gatorade or Sprite, but the caffeine is out of my system. No coffee, nothing.

I've also split my cardio into 4 parts: Ball, martial arts, swimming and running. That keeps things interesting.

I'm still all about the cable flys, free weights, leg machines and inclined crunches.

BUT the best thing I've done is increased time on the stretching pads before and after workouts. Stretching is quite possibly my favorite part of the workout now and now my girlfriend got me into using a foam roller and it's AMAZING. I can't recommend it enough. I get the best stretch in my back. :droop:

So I have been putting in those Gatorade codes and have won a couple Whey Protein Bars. These are intended for after a workout to help recover the body, but notice they are 350 calories. If my goal is to lose weight, wouldn't it be counter-intuitive to crush that bar after my workout? I assume they are more intended for people that are playing like full basketball games --- not 25 minute workouts. Any thoughts?

Thinking about getting the FitBit Charge with HR monitor in it which I heard helps with more accurate gauge of calories burned (the HR portion).

it's all about calories in/calories out, so you can definitely lose weight while eating those bars as long as you don't go over your daily "budget". that said, 350 is a lot for a single bar. i'd personally rather have a slice of pizza for that many cals.

Boo.. tweaked my AC joint in my left shoulder doing some decline barbell bench this weekend.

I had been using almost exclusively dumbbells for the last year or so, looks like I shouldn't have made the switch back to barbell. Think I might just drop decline movements all together to be honest, and just hit flat and incline.

No lie, I dig the Clif Builder bars a ton. I've been eating one prior to workout and it's been a strong fuel.

i eat them for lunch quite a bit with some fruit and maybe some almonds.

the chocolate mint ones are my ish.

also for my fellow lifters, isopure is amazing.

macros are amazing. 160 cals, 40 grams of protein, and it tastes awesome for a protein drink. i still don't exactly get how they make it clear.

only real downside is it's expensive as frick.

i get mine from metro market. so i'm assuming all metro markets/pick n saves have them.

then i'm sure vitamin shoppe/gnc. and then obviously online.

but yea i'd just try where you buy groceries. like i said, they're like 3 something a bottle. but if you're in a rush, drink them occasionally, or you're just loaded and can drink them everyday, they're awesome.
